Uber will simply shutdown operations in Lagos is problem is too much. Didnt the drivers know what they signed up for when they signed up for it?
Or what stops them from doing their private taxi work without uber. Uber connects them to riders easily. Otherwise the drivers wont use the app.

I really don't think it necessary to protest, they should have invited the Uber guys on a negotiation table to discuss the 25% commission.

The Uber that I know shouldn't be a full time job.

stupid move. yhur using a companies idea, platform to run yhur business, of cause they define the terms.

instead of embarking on stupid strike n senseless riot, can't they just pool their resources together hire a programmer and build their own network/platform.

the uber app is nothing more than a database, GPS,profile and rating plus back end web and notification.

1 million tops for a very very good app.
800k a very good.
500k to 300k just basic .

if them go pay I can build it for them, ideas rule the world, taxe drivers form associations, the uber platform is nothing more than that.

Even though it's not a must to be on Uber's platform, I support their agitation.

25% Uber charges for their fee is too much, they don't do anything except to connect a rider and driver via their app. Greedy guys!

You think the infrastructure and talent that powers that "connection" is cheap?

The quality of cars and drivers on the uber platform has reduced drastically. I don't fancy the system anymore. I prefer to pay higher for a better car and a polished driver instead of the cabu-cabus and touts we see now on the platform.

Suggestions:
1. Uber should cut their commission to 15%.
2. Introduce another tier of cars for people like me, and charge slightly higher - say cars from 2010 & above. These ones usually have more polished drivers too.
3. Prospective drivers should definitely be verified and scrutinized before being approved.

I know it don't come cheap but 25% per trip of thousands of trip in Lagos per day is greed!

The below article supported my claim that they are greedy.

I'm an Uber Driver.
When I hard the news saying 40% fare cut down with out Uber them self cutting down their own 25% commission. I was like I'm finished and done driving under uber platform .

Is nothing but slavery.
Again Uber is greedy
Let us now look into it using my corolla

I covers average of 120 to 180 miles very day making 12 to 20k a day.
From that earning i Buy 4 to 5k fuel every day.

Now with this 40% reduction in fare i get mors riders as if it's Xmas season.
But now cover 200 to 250 miles a day.
Earn 8 to 13k a day, buy fuel of 7k daily

Here are the changes.
After a full day of hard serious driving I go home with like 4k. Well looking into it, 1k plus is toll paid.

And I have stressed my car almost times 2 of what I normally do.
That means increase in mantaince cost.

Uber is all about offering riders 5 star services.
With this fare reduction u are not happy and can't offer this 5 star services.

Uber promised 5k weekly if u drive 70 hours weekly
Tell me how can one drive 10 hours daily for 7 days just to get 5k bonus.

We drivers and partners don't want your bonus.
If you most cut fare by 40% cut your commission or app charge to 5%

Your 25% weighs too high!!
We don't need your bonuses because 70% of drivers can't meet it
Simply cut your commission to 5%

Imagine I picked up a rider from prime waters lekki to Oniru. Uber charges N455 Naira. The man shouted saying your phone is not working.
He gave me 1k said I should keep change.
I told told him that uber offers 40% fare reduction now.
Guess his response?

"This is slavery"
cry

Well explained. Now I understand. Uber should reduce its commission biko

So, if all of them are in harmony like this, a little more effort to create their own platform and make it popular and work is gonna be cool for them all. But as Nigerians nau, expect to always see part 2 of everything.

I joined uber as a partner and a driver on their platform after I lost my banking job last year February. Some Uber drivers/partners are highly qualified Nigerians who lost their jobs and decided to drive their own cars to make a living. You would be shocked at some of their qualifications.

After the fuel price hike, uber refused to increase fares citing a potential loss of patronage. We managed and groan under high maintenace cost including but not limited to fueling, servicing, plugs, tires, breakpads etc.

Last Thursday uber slashed prices by 40% and left their percentage unchanged at 25% of whatever revenue we generate. Running expenses remains the same but revenue dropped drastically. Even the promised palliatives/incentive will also be charged 25%.

Imagine a driver who rents a car at 40/45k weekly.
How much can you generate to fuel the car?
Pay car owners
Fuelling
Cash wash daily, atimes twice a day
Data
Call credit
Tolling charges
Feeding
Tire patching/inflation etc.

This is slavery and wickedness.

How come every country uber operates they always seem to generate controversies.

This is slavery and wickedness as some danfo fares are higher than uber. You see fares like 300naira, 750 naira. So sad.
