Nigeria More Divided Under Buhari Than Any Time In History – Charles Soludo by Gistpeeps: 1:59pm On May 11, 2017
Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has observed that Nigeria as at “today has never been more divided than any time in our history.”

The former CBN governor, who made the remark in Enugu, also noted that Nigeria is at the verge of breakup.

He said only big ideas can save the country from an impending doom.

He said: “‎Ideas rule the world. Ideas constitute about 60 or 70 percent of the input needed to get any project done.

“Nigeria is a project, it is work in progress. African continent is a project and only big ideas; ideas work.

“It is through ideas that any nation, any continent has been built; any economy has been built, any political structure has been built and transformed.

“Nigeria is at a crossroad. We’ve been ranked one of the most fragile states in the world and‎ there are nationalities’ questions.

“Nigeria as of today has never been more divided than any time in our history and so the search for the big ideas is to help in the transformation process that will really get Nigeria moving from point A to point B and also, leap forward and claim its rights in the comity of nations…

“It is only big and transformative ideas ‎that can do so. And so in this Big ideas podium of the African Heritage Institute, we are looking for the out of ordinary ideas, the missing links and the new thing that we need to put in place.‎”

Yes, we are more divided but the reasons for the division should also be said. A group of people have decided not to move on because their candidate lost. Some even went as far as agitating for secession just because they don't like the face of the president. So, how do you unite a people that don't want to be united?

For some of us, we are no longer concerned. Those who want to wail over electoral loss till 2019 can go ahead. Others are strategising ahead of 2019 and some people are busy attacking others instead of building bridges. At the right time, water will fund its level.

Your observation is true, but the president didn't help either.

Phrases like the infamous “97%/5%” one kind of signalled the objective of his administration at the outset: divide the Nigerian people along as many lines as possible.

His queer mathematical formula tells us how he intended to handle “inclusive governance.”

These aren't statements a unifying force should be making. Nigerians desire a president that is a unifier, a healer of the national breach.

Buhari is a man of many faults as far as saying the wrong things.

A look at the people who form the core of his government is enough proof of the divisive figure that he is. They are mainly his kinsmen and women as well as people of his ethnic or cultural stock.

His appointments saw Buhari making good his promise of sidelining the 5 Percenters.

If that isn't setting the stage for division, then I wonder what is.

Yeah but a good leader must never say that he would mete out 5% treatment to a group of people. That didn't help at all.

Why would nigeria not be divided when we have a religious and tribal bigot as president..

Stop spreading false information, Buhari never said he would give 5% treatment to any group in Nigeria.

During a Q&A in the US yesterday at the National Democratic Institute when asked how he intends to deal with issues in the Niger Delta, particularly Amnesty, bunkering and inclusive development, president Buhari said;

“(Going by election results), constituencies that gave me 97% can not in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me 5%. I think these are political realities. While, certainly there will be justice for everybody but the people who voted, and made their votes count, they must feel the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place. I think this is really fair.”

Lol. Biafrans did not secede in 2003 when their hero Ojukwu did not win an election, and you think that the defeat of GEJ, an Ijaw man made them want to secede in 2015?

I wonder who is feeding your gullible folly the kind of propaganda circulating in the s. waste. I'm pretty sure you're among those reading the book about how Buhari was "poisoned." Is your destiny tied with Igbos? Did your alfa/dibia/babalawo tell you that you'll be a failure in life if there's Biafra in Enugu and Onitsha, places that you've never bothered to visit in your whole life?

Even if Biafrans want to secede because of the outcome of an election, how does it make the agitation illegal or bad? How does the Igbo being left alone in their own country cause you to have multiple orgasms?

Stale news! Elections have been over for 2 years, you and your peeps are those yet to get over it.
Forever singing on and on about it. Talk about crying more than the bereaved.

Anyway, I understand your situation. Considering how much Buhari has let down the country, the only way out is to look for who to blame - and voila, election loss! Please continue singing it till 4 years will knock on the door.
