Yeah well, TBH this one has me a little stumped. Not many people have this device too.

There's something about this particular device I haven't figured out yet so my attempts have failed.


And time is scarce for me these days.

No harm in getting people interested in it. Way I see it, if we do one successfully, others will follow .

Hopefully we are able to share know how.

Normally these things don't cost money I Know, but it'll be really useful if I can get better ROMs for device

You need to flash the stock rom with SPFlashtools.

Hopefully the stock rom is available online. Cos TECNO na wah.

Nope. You are wrong.

There are MTK devices that have CyanogenMod built for them.

What you need is to find one with:

Same processor
Same kernel version
Same Android version as stock ( or even different sef)

You can port that for your own MTK device. It's just a bit more work, and a lot of copying and pasting files.

The screenshots are from fresh install of stock rom.

the system partition is almost full, the cache is ridiculously small


it is not possible to enjoy this device with the stock rom.

UPDATE!!

Successfully ported a fully functional AOSP rom

so now i have a working recovery and working custom rom, hopefully the first of many.

Tried all the porting guides, even had some advice from Madjnr, which ultimately got me a ROM with no Audio no matter how hard i tried to follow all those guides and how-to's online and from folks





Left it for a while, then decided to be drastic about it. Didn't have anything to lose in my view.

I thought what really changes in port roms is the UI. its not like you can add any hardware capability that your device didn't have before e.g if your device doesn't have NFC, you can't magically add it by porting a ROM. You just change the UI by which you interact with that hardware.
SO why not just use *ONLY* those things that have to do with UI from the port rom

So i did this:

in the port ROM /system folder i deleted the folders leaving just
FRAMEWORK,
APP,
ADDON.D
PRIV-APP

folders



the ones i deleted i replaced with their equivalent from the stock rom

then replaced the boot.img with the stock ROM and zipped it all up

flashed it and it booted and everything works fine.




so there's that. I'm sharing so that someday someone might be in this position and decide to try this.

nobody got the prize. i did it myself

i did give out some money upfront as 'proof' that i'd pay, but i didn't get any ROM from that.

all i got was some directions that ultimately didn't prove to be very useful so.........

I'll post shots later. i'm busy doing other experiments, seeing that I've solved the main issue

I also have a tecno 8h i have tried many online procedure to tweak it but all proved abortive.

Kindly share how you get yours done.

I even tried your post on carliv recovery but couldn't get it done.

Yes, the response is much better.

and because the rom occupies just 400Mb of the /system the device positively flies


Makes me wonder how terrible Tecno's software builds are really. The firmware is exactly the same as stock, its the UI elements of the OS i've changed and it is light years away from the Stock Rom. and it doesn't slow down to a crawl after a while.

i've since installed another launcher, apps and xposed modules on it so i don't think my screenshots will be any good
