You must be completely out of your senses. Using a graduate to push a wheelbarrow for whatever reason is like Guv Ortom using his 200 million naira armoured suv to pack sand to the site or manure to the farm where these graduates are expected to work. What js it. A collosal waste of resources. Do you know just how much it costs to train or raise a college graduate whether it is government, individual parents or some charity sponsoring them and you deploy them to do what....push wheelbarrows. Do you need an educated man to haul stuff.

Look Mr. Man. Poverty is not the lack of money. It is the lack of ideas, the will to implement them and the excellence to sustain them. What the governor demonstrates is the lack of ideas. These are the same folks that will give their graduates wheelbarrows and give jobs to certificate holders from China, India and Europe via multibillion dollar contracts ala the Julius Berger phenomenon.

If the whole economy was down and Ortom rode a motorbike or bicycle instead of a quarter of a billion naira armoured car then I would understand graduates going to the farm and digging rocks to make roads as was in the case with the cultural revolution of Chairman Mao many decades ago that forged the great China of today. But that was born on ideas, principles of equality and collective sacrifice and we can see the results today.

What is Ortom's ideas and what sacrifice is he making. Can he visit any of the locations these wheelbarrows will be deployed and look around happy and satisfied without armed escort or from the safety of his armoured set of wheels whose tires alone will buy every graduate in Benue state a push wheelie.

You made some good points (even though I wonder why you had to start with insisting that I'm out of my senses!)

Yes, poverty stems from a lack of ideas. And that works both ways.

A graduate who spends YEARS waiting for employment lacks ideas. And such a person should be humble enough to do any honest labour to bring in some cash.

Just read through some of the reactions here and think of the quality of graduates we're churning out.

The certificate is supposed to show character and learning. So what do you have to say about "graduates" whose first recourse in a discussion is to unleash their emotions without thinking?

Ask the average "graduate" today to START a small hustle and he will use his "educated" mind to think up all the excuses why he can't.

He's waiting for someone to give him a job or for Oluwa to pick his call.

Sad

Really? So graduates should them push wheelbarrows? You mean you really see nothing wrong with this epic show of shamelessness? Even if you want to empower them so that they wont be wasting time on facebook and twitter according to you, cant they be empowered to learn skills or create a few more employments? Wheelbarrow kor! Is it wheelbarrow that you push for a living

Tell that fellow to go to Oshodi and see the lives of those who push wheelbarrow looks like whether he will be encouraged himself Now, Lagos is where things are happening and their lives are like that not to talk of Benue where nothing is happening. That guy must be intelligently unintelligent

I strongly believe that you are currently one of his paid allies, and if you are not, the you are MAD, yeah I mean it, you are INSANE, what then is the value of the education a graduate took 5 or more years to acquire if he's into end up pushing wheelbarrow? In addition, only a clueless governor like your boss won't think twice before emblazoned that on a wheelbarrow.

Assuming these are for graduates, is there any problem with that?

Isn't honest labour better than sitting at home posting all day on Twitter and Nairaland?

Being a graduate doesn't immune one from working for a living, as long as its honest work.

It's a problem when graduates somehow feel ENTITLED to cosy office jobs even when such jobs are in limited supply.

Cheers

This governor must be high on sth strong. What is he taking the people for? Who among his children is he empowering in this manner? Upon the billions of naira you declare as your state budget, is this the very best you can give people who defied the sun and rain to elect you into that office you occupy? Oh my gosh!!! A pity really.

in as much as its coming from a Governor that a graduate should pick up wheelbarrow is grossly unacceptable. What is happening to the abundant of land in Benue state, can't he empower to that effect? As am talking to you now, there is no mechanize farming in that state, can't he do something?

Benue state is blessed with fruit of all kinds, why cant he create a training or entrepreneurship center to train these graduates in juice making and production? Why wheelbarrow, to do what?

Oh Shanghai, my dear country,a land full of milk and abundant blessing of the lord through mineral resourses.
Rich land to farm and rear livestocks.
Shonghai youths are called LEADERS OF TOMMORROW, i wounder when the tommorrow would come. Our Songhai youths celebrate thieves, greedy and selfish leaders once they hear the sound of coin in their ears; they also cultivates the habit of selfishness.
Oh my dear country, when shall i see ma native land and when shall i see my home, when will our leaders reslise and interpret The trust we invested on them and develope the shongai land postivily.
Oh my dear shongai land, oh my land full of milk and with richly endowment from God.
