‘’IF THERE WERE TO BE ANOTHER PROPHET AFTER ME, IT WOULD BE UMAR (RA)’’ ….MUHAMMAD (SAW).

Equivocally, one may begin to ponder what exactly is spectacular about the caliph UMAR to have been proclaimed as the supposing next prophet after RasuuluLlaah. Leaving doubts and surprises, Umar’s wonderful lifetime is worthwhile the honor.

It should be understood without doubt that life of a man before transforming into a believer is subject to change in character and personality, in this case, there is need for separation between the character and personalities of Umar as a Pagan and as a Muslim. Hence, character and personality of Umar before conversion comes first.
The famous wrestler was well disciplined man birthed by a staunch and harsh father, Ibn al khattab ibn Nufayl. He is from a highly respectable family, (Adi clan) whose interference and advises are being consulted at dispute occurrences between two or more families or peoples.

Umar was a brave man, fearless of no one. His attempt to the killing of the Prophet (SAW) was a courageous act for the anti-islamic arabs at the time. He was full of integrity and blunt, he careless of how the receiver or victim of his bluntness’ attitude sees it or would feel about it.
He was however faithful and gave reverence to religion and culture. At least one of the causes that led to the hatred of Muhammad and Islam was the ill-speech and disqualification of the Quraysh gods by the Muslims. Also it could be observed that Umar gave reference to Arab culture during the ignorance era (Jahiliyyah) when he had to bury his daughter alive (infanticide).

He was however truthful, humble, considerate and full of sincerity. During his late hours as a pagan, at his sister house, he was forced to stop beating when he found blood on her and called for the Qur’an when he heard something worth of majesty in the recitation of surah Ta-Ha (chapter 20:14). He had to be sincere and considered the Lord mentioned therein as the true supreme God- ALLAH.

CONVERSION TO ISLAM.

During this period, there lived two great Umars, the affluent Umar and the strong, brave Umar.
Muhammad having knowing the value and importance of having one of these two men prayed for one of the two. He prayed thus; ‘’OH ALLAH, GIVE ME ONE OF THE TWO UMARS’’.

Consecutively, Following the misdemeanor and abuse unintentionally done by the rising faith (Islam) to the detriment of the gods of the Arabs in value, annoyance and frustration thrives and there was an emergency declaration of Muhammad’s killing. Umar volunteered to take the task and vow to return the debasing glory of the gods.

Umar set on his way to eliminate the prophet and met a man, Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqqas who asked him of his mission, umar declared his mission to nab the prophet and kill him. Sa’d advised him to begin from his sister who had already accepted Islam and learning the Quran from a gentle man, Khabbab. Umar on hearing this ,marched towards the house of Fatimah, his sister and caught her learning the quran from her husband. Umar stroke khabbab who ran to hid from more bruises, Fatimah intervened in the beating and umar landed his hand on her until he was forced to stop when he saw her bled. Umar requested for the Qur’an but Fatimah refused and declared him as unclean. Umar noticed he had to wash himself before touching the Qur’an, he did and returned to hear the recitation of Surah Ta-Ha, chapter 20 verse 14 of the holy Qur’an. He was moved and intrigued by the style of the words and the majestic declaration of the Lordship, GOD in the verse.
Consequently, the prophet and other Muslims are secluded under the dwelling of a companion’s house. Umar already changed his....

Religion is a vast and sensitive topic, it is no doubt one of the major reasons of violent conflicts in the world. The reason behind this is the lack of understanding between the opposing religions. Religion priests and religion academists both have their roles to play in restoring peace, but I believe that of the religious academists would be more effective. The religion priests preach and enjoin us to live in peace with all men, but with the existing misunderstandings and misconceptions about the other religion, this becomes difficult, eventually giving rise to problems. Also, religion priests might be biased as man tends to think of his religion as the superior. On the other hand, religion academists study the various religions; their beliefs, way of life, reasons behind their actions/law. With this, it is easy to understand, tolerate and create a means whereby we can coexist with one another. Knowledge is a key and indispensable factor in stabilizing peace.

Peace restoration to the society is essential as evil deeds and vices continue to be the regular pattern of the society.
The fact that the religion priest has a hand in restoring peace can not be ignored as the sermons and words of exhortation on Moral virtues (The background of peace restoration) can go a long way.
But on a second thought, Teenagers and young adults who are mostly involved in these vices can be the instrument of change only if they are educated and enlightened on moral ethics and various godly approaches to the problem of the society instead of seeing crime as the only route, Thus the need of religion academist. The society needs religion academist who can make ignorant individuals who neglects the place of worship enlightened. ODUBENA OLUWAFEMI JOHNSON

The religion priest are seen as the spiritual leaders while the religion Academist are seen as religion scholars. The religion priest plays the role of teaching through the religious books like the Bible, Quran and so forth. The religion Academist has acquired more knowledge in schools being a scholar. They serve as the instrument of enlightenment in the society to those who lack the knowledge of what other religions entail.
