This is a shame, Haiti is full of blacks, yet no support from Africa, except South Africa. Our Acting Deputy Vice President could only express "sympathy and grief with our brothers and sisters". Not a dime or a pledge made in cash or resources.

Look at this list and you will understand what I am saying, even if it's $100,000. In short we yab for Africa. It is not everyday we should be helped, when issues like this occur we need to show we are not a continent of takers.

@Poster, how can we help at this time when our president remains missing? If you notice, most all the countries that are rushing to help actually have their leaders representing 'em. We, on the other hand, are in need of help. lol

I don't know what's surprising about that. Most Black nations are poor and in dire need of aid even without earthquake. It's truly sad.

Nigeria is poor- ta! Have u seen the estates where the governmental housing?

Well did you think that Nigeria was really going to offer any assistance with the greedy and selfish politicians that are controlling the country. Right now they are too busy planning of a way to deceive the nigerian people, keep looting the nation's treasury and keep the country in a state of anarchy. The amount of money that these people have looted in like the past few months is enough to make a sizeable contribution.

If we had a responsible government this would have been a way to boost Nigeria's image.

Governmental housing does not constitute the whole Nigeria. Heck, most countries definitely have fine governmental housing. Does that erase the over 90% of ugly housings in the middle of slums?

Well, Nigeria is not poor per se but they might as well be, the people can't see the resources, which is what really matters.

they might have helped but not in large droves
moreso there aren't that many honest NGO that have international presence

Now, this could have been a good opportunity for someone like the VP to step up and show us he even has a spine there holding him up. But I am guessing, to keep his JOB, he would rather not have an opinion on the situation in haiti.

Nigeria wouldn't want to help probably because of Haiti's recognition of the state of Biafra during the civil war.

Ok, if only the President can be located.  undecided
Not like he can do any more than he's been doing for the country's citizens.

that is a good (political) reason not to support haiti,
but in situations like this, even enemies have to become civil and the fact that that happened many years ago. . .
i doubt Nigeria has any official presence in haiti, but the main reason nigeria doesn't or hasn't responded as a country is down to funding plain n simple.

This Haiti  thing got me thinking how lucky we are in Nigeria. We never get all those extreme weather in Nigeria. Earthquakes, Blizzards, tornado's, Floods, Mudslides.
Re: While The World Helps Haiti, Not One Black African Nation Has Helped by Nobody: 5:35am On Jan 15, 2010
Funding? Do you realise Nigeria has almost $60 billion cash in reserves as we speak?

Some of you people have no idea just how wealthy Nigeria is.

We could easily afford to pledge $20 million to relief efforts in Haiti.

And that wouild be DOUBLE what Britain has pledged (a paltry $10 million).

There is just a lack of Black/African consciousness at the highest official levels.

Not surprising since we're ruled by western stooges.

How are black nations going to help, when they need help themselves?  I pretty sure countries in the Carribean have donated equipments and food, etc, but compare to rich nations like China, Iceland, Britain, Germany, US, it's probably little. African nations can't do much so they don't have the equipments that is needed right now. The big reliefs are coming from Rich countries regardless of race. I am pretty sure if black nations were rich we would help more. How many third world countries are really helping? Our people are suffering too. Imagine the democratic republic of Congo trying to help? South Africa is helping because they are the only nation capable of helping.

Bros forget that thing. Look, I can tell you for free right now. NIGERIA HAS ENOUGH FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL RESOURCES TO ASSIST HAITI TODAY.

Nigeria has the cash, the planes, the helicopters, military-rescue units, ships, emergency food, para-medics, nurses, doctors, and other trained personnel who can be mobilized and sent in to Haiti TOMORROW, if we so desired.

Quote me on that.

One more thing. We have enough to provide same to TEN countries simultaneously.

Not saying we can solve all their problems, but we sure as hell can contribute something tangible if we had the requisite will, confidence, and selflessness.

That's ALL that's lacking.

Vatican City
In his weekly address, Pope Benedict XVI offered his condolences to families of the dead and called on his worldwide charity network to assist in the removal of any contraceptives which may find their way to Haiti through relief efforts

Did any of you see this?
