Always wanted to see massive investment of this sort by our governors to encourage investment.
Have no idea what they planted (will Google soon) but very proud of the initiative. Hopefully the government remains committed and does not turn this to an Elephant project

If the south west states can concentrate and invest on agriculture, the south west economy will be a major force in Africa. The days of the cocoa pyramid is a major time in the development of the south west area.

Agriculture only makes sense in an agrarian economy.

Its regressive going back to agriculture.

As countries grow, the agric sector becomes smaller as a percentage of GDP. No rich country has an agric sector that accounts for more than 10% of GDP.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmelina_arborea

Any re-afforestation initiative is a good one, but the presence of Chinese investors all over Africa should be a cause for grave concern. China is the most heavily polluted country on the planet, and also one of the most densely populated. Furthermore, over the past decade, China has virtually COLONIZED many areas in Africa, with utterly devastating results. African wildlife is also being decimated wholesale by the Chinese, with zero regard for the repercussions of that trade in rare and endangered animal parts that are used to make Chinese juju potions, most of which simply do not work as advertised.

A prime example of China's insidious effect on Africa is to be found in Ghana, where rampant, unregulated gold mining operations run by ARMED Chinese gangs, have spewed tons of deadly pollutants into rivers and lakes, rendering such water bodies unfit for drinking. With the connivance of high level Ghanaian government officials, the Chinese have indeed assumed the role of colonial overlords in that nation, where they are free to destroy the environment with reckless exploitation of natural resources, while generating highly toxic effluent whose effects on the indigenous population will, over time, grow to become utterly devastating to the land, and its native people.

Beware gift-bearing Chinese investors, for they will, before long, show their true colors, though it may be too late when reality dawns on Africans about just how utterly destructive a Chinese expatriate presence can be in Africa.

It's Gmelina arborea not "aboree ". it's an exotic tree species commonly known for its quality timber and pulp wood. The medicinal value is not as significant as its timber and pulp wood quality. It is a fast growing specie, reaches maturity for timber production at age 15 or more and less than 15 for pulp wood production. Its long fibre and ease of depulping makes it a good choice over several other species for paper production. As for the Chinko people, I don't think they are contacted to establish the plantation, I think their company wants to partner with Ondo State Government for the project. We have lots of capable hands to handle planting of trees, btw Gmelina arborea is one of the species with ease of establishment unlike Pinus caribae. Good one arakunrin, I'm proud to be a forester.

I laugh in Swahili at your ignorance.

Malaysia which iis famous for its highly developed agricultural sector and which many countries would like to eminate has an agricultural sector that accounts for only 12% of its GDP. Malaysia has only 20million people and its only an upper middle income economy.

A matured and enlightened response with humility bestows respect on the one who delivers it.
