CONTRARY to believe that the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress and former governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Tunubu hails from the state, Former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George has said Tinubu is not a Lagosian but hails from Osun State.

George stated this while accessing the progress of Lagos for the last fifty years stating that Lagos is the only state in the country that can accept a non-indigene as governor.

In an interview he granted Tunde Thomas of Sun Newspaper, George said Lagos doesn’t discriminate against anybody, while of the view that a time is coming when an Igbo man, Hausa man, Igala man, will become the state governor.

“Former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not a Lagosian. He is from Iragbiji town in Osun State, but was he not given opportunity to excel in Lagos State? Tinubu is not from Lagos State, and yet he became the state governor.

“Yes. Quote me, Tinubu is not a Lagosian. He is from Iragbiji in Osun State. I’m not talking politics here but speaking fact. Tinubu is not a Lagosian but Lagosians accommodated him, and gave him opportunity to excel. That’s one thing about us in Lagos State – we don’t discriminate, we welcome all, and we allow you to realize your potentialities,” George was quoted as saying.

Social Times learnt that Tinubu, who bagged chieftaincy titles of ‘Jagaban’ of Lagos and Borgu Kingdom in Niger State, was elected Senator for the Lagos West constituency in Lagos State in 1993, just before a military take-over in December 1993.

After the return to democracy, he was elected governor of Lagos State, holding office from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007.

Born on 29 March 1952 in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. He attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos and Children’s Home School in Ibadan. Tinubu went to the United States in 1975, where he studied first at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago , Illinois and then at Chicago State University. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
