My Succesful VBAC Story!!! Yaaay by specialguest(f): 2:37pm On May 31, 2017
This is only meant to encourage a sister out there who wish to try Virginal birth after ceasarian VBAC.
My first baby was delivered about two years ago via an emergency ceasarian section. In summary I walked into the hospital for ante natal on my EDD and during routine examinations they claimed the baby's heart rate had dropped and she was in a condition 'fetal distress' so I needed to be sectioned to get the baby out ASAP. In less than 30 mins baby was out and I was in recovery.

Last year October I found out I was pregnant again, after the excitement wore off I began to recall how my previous delivery went from birth to the time it took for the wound to heal not to mention my scar formed keloid so it is not invincible as they told me it would be.

The thought of VBAC came up and I started researching. Thankfully I found out that certain conditions have to be met before one becomes a candidate for VBAC, I noted those conditions and kept checking as my pregnancy progressed.

I discussed my findings with my doctor who strongly disagreed with me. Infact he said it will be a lot easier to have an elective CS scheduled because of the previous section so we don't do trial of labour and I end up with a ruptured womb. But I was bent on trying VBAC so I asked questions around and a family friend recommended an ob/gyn she knows in a different state. I made arrangements , travelled down, after his assessments he said I had 80% chance of delivering on my own. Haha that was more than I needed, armed with that info I returned to base and began preparing for delivery.

On Saturday 27th may 2017 my waters broke ( spontaneous rupture of the membrane) after a night of diarrhoea. I immediately began to panic because my EDD was still 3 weeks away and I was not in the town I planned to birth. Anyway my husband decided it's best we get packing and hit the road that early morning. Called the doctor on the way and he assured me not to worry babies don't just pop out because the waters have broken like in Hollywood movies.

I got to the hospital around 11 am, I was examined and sent home on erythromycin( anti biotic) with the instructions to return soon as I had strong contractions (5 mins apart) or after 48 hours ( Monday morning) if no contractions.

I waited and waited no contractions , I walked, did squats, ate ewedu leaves, prayed still no serious contractions. By Monday morning 48 hours had elapsed so I packed and checked into the hospital. Before I got there my room had been set with pitocin iv waiting for me, labour had to be induced. They started the induction around 12 noon, contractions came more frequent by 2.30 and by 6pm I was in labour room shouting ' I am tired o, I don't want again'. Hmmm whoever said labour is not painful certainly lied!

Joyfully happily after the screaming and shouting and crying and assistance via vacuum my prince made a grand entrance at 6.25 pm same day ( Monday 29th may 2017 after 4.5 hours of labour) weighing 2.5 kg at 37 weeks but in perfectly good condition. I felt like an achiever holding him in my arms a few moments after birth and surprisingly my energy returned with a fresh boost.

Slept over in the hospital that night and got discharged 7.30 am the next morning.

All in all I give God the glory, and the amazing, patient doctor and midwives at Belmont specialist hospital kaduna who ensured I had a VBAC just so my delivery story will be complete.

Like I said at the beginning this is to encourage someone who wants to try, if you meet the conditions, go for it! There is nothing the human body cannot achieve.

Shalom!

N.b if you have any questions regarding what to expect or my experience I will be willing to answer but bear in mind I am by no means an expert in this field, I draw my conclusions from personal experience and interactions with my ob/gyn during my VBAC journey.

Congratulations sister. Welcome to your little prince. But CS all the way for me. I'd rather not go through the stress of labour pain only to still go through pain of CS revovery like my friend did.

Hello, sorry I am just seeing this.
Hope you are feeling better now. With just one CS Vbac is very possible however I met a lady at the hospital where I gave birth who had myomectomy done previously. She was placed on 'trial of labour and after sometime she didn't progress significantly and they had to section her. I understand all cases are different though

1. The size of the baby should not be too big. Personally I was praying for around 3kg but he came smaller.
2. The previous CS must have been done by a qualified ob/gyn. My gynea had to confirm that To ensure the integrity of the scar.
3. At the later stage of the pregnancy the baby should have engaged. 'Head down towards the birth canal'
4. Have adequate time between the two pregnancies.
