The north have;North Ecological fund,North East development commission, so other region apart from North can have that also
The North East Development commission was not to be, but the Senators of National Assembly !members from the south east, allowed the Bill to pass, which was bad and I was screaming fowl, but you can't solve a wrong with Two wrongs, If any such commission should be established it should be funded solely by revenue sourced from the region in question soley, that way If Bayelsa state or Zamfara wants to set up a commission who cares, but this indirect, means of establishig one commission or the other and getting to Niger Delta to pay for it indirectly, won't work.

that's how the three R program was abandoned after the war.

to the best of my knowledge, we still ve the northern Nigeria development commission(NNDC) which was established decades ago... so much for people who contribute nothing to the federation account. yet they wud want to kill a bill that advocate same for the SE,and u say we re one Nigeria?

A similar bill, the North East Development Commission, was squashed by the same House. I see no reason why there should be a fuss about this. The Special Bill status for Lagos suffered the same fate when it was brought up.

The said lawmaker should have met a couple of other lawmakers before letting out the bill. A sound debate would have brought about a cogent reason as to why the bill should have flown, rather than scream gang up and marginalisation.

Refer to this thread and see how mature the southwest are compared to you guys.

No one has thrown a party like you guys did over the rejected Lagos "Special status" bill.

Did U even read the text? Nigeria's youth are finished. look at the lie one person just told from the beginning and U all are ignorantly echoing it! How do U know the south east fought the Lagos bill? "Ekweremadu then put the bill into voting which unsurprisingly was unanimously rejected by the senators." It was UNANIMOUS! Senator Adeyeye yeye-ed the bill by yabbing Abuja, before the vote was put up. EVERYBODY rejected it!

Now i want to ask you a question. Would you have supported it if the bill included the whole south west?

Let the south east also look for how the federal government can assist it as advised by an ibo Senator.
Eye for Eye

Pls read the statement of the last contributor in this your link, you will see constitutional problem against the bill even your SW senators was mute on this bill maybe they sensed that Mrs Tinubu has a hidden agenda hence they refused to support the bill.

I don't know why those of us in the south keep saying the north have nothing , the north contribute nothing . That is a falsehood. We all know that more than 70% of the food consumed in this country apart from what is imported is produced in the north. The SE produce northing, the SW little. If the north stop supplying food to the south hunger will finish us. Look at what happened during the civil war, you expected your enemy whom you are fighting with to be the one supplying you food because the biafra don't have food.
You don't realise you gain anything from the north now until you have your own country and realise you can't eat and drink oil.
Ignorance at work! Biafra starved because alied forces of Britain, Russia & Cameroun joined together to blockade us from the sea while Egyptian pilots bombed civilians and ensured that nobody went to farms, markets nor schools. A.bo.ki go school you no gree go.

Why did lawmakers from the south east opposed the bill seeking to give Lagos a special status?

Why did the ibos join the gang up against Lagos state?

What harm will Lagos state special status do to the south east that they had to join the north to oppose it?

The bill has constitutional problem. 164 (1).

The North have North ecological fund,North East development commission,Niger delta have NNDC, the SW and SE can come up with their own development commission.
The special status for lagos is good, but adding Kano and Anambra to it is the best and development will spread.
Other countries have many big cities, Nigeria cant keep on having only one state of exit and import activities.

But what exactly does the SE contribute to the National purse?

My brother, which internal general revenue are you expecting from these states again, when there are less or no Federal investments there, no enabling business environment, no amenities and good roads to boost local industries production. As a result, these south Easterners concentrate the bulk of their business investment in Lagos and Abuja. That is to say that they partly contribute to the IGRs of those states.

I have read every single comment on this thread and come to the conclusion that Nigeria can never live as a Nation.
We're just wasting our time in this project called one Nigeria.

From page 1 to 3 are different Nations fighting.

Northerners sees Yorubas and Igbos together with other Southern minorities as those that doesn't deserve better treatment than themselves; Yorubas sees Northerners, Igbos and others as those who doesn't deserve better than themselves; Igbos feels they deserve better treatment than Northerners and Yorubas. But Igbos want to exist the one Nigeria project, while others are saying no.

Hmmm! For how long are we going to continue deceiving ourselves in this country?

Nobody is against it,they are saying that two or three more state should be giving the special status in Nigeria.
Why is it that you people want everything in Nigeria to revolve around lagos, does that make sense to you people, other countries are developing big cities in their country but in Nigeria it is only lagos.
South Africa have 6 standard ports and 4 standard international airports that covers the entire country.
Pretoria,Durban,Cape Town,Johannesburg, etc, why is it that you people dont want Nigeria to develop.

But we all know why things are the way they are.
So you should thank the Niger Deltans for the High FIRS and Customs Non Oil revenue.

Let's face facts apart from the oil companies, politicians .... Manufacturing and Agricultural is only a fraction of that amount.

I was tempted to fall back to the Lagos special status bill that was rejected last year and all I can say is some people have forgotten their comments on that thread. Would share some.

ificatchmodeh:
....you see this westerners think they're smarter than the rest of the country..
And that's why they always have issue..

What kind of bill gives lagos 1/ of nation revenue..yet when the NDA or naija delta agitators make demands...

Genuine demands that will see to development of the nation's life line.

This same westerners will player hate and support port military invasion. but will want 1/ given to lagos.

So where are the gonna get the 1/ from, even if?

You see greed and ignorance..

madapcmod:
Useless bill fit for the dustbin.

Later all these Cat whisker faced oblong head afonja will come and tell us it's their land , that they single handed developed it, the federal govt money sunk in Lagos is not enough for them, our collective wealth as a nation.

What happened to all the billions Lagos earn as a result of one sided govt policy that placed her in vintage position compared to other states?

May be lokoja and calaber should also be included as beneficiaries after all they are former capitals.

Mtchew

DIFY20:
dis yourba people sef ...

dey want some percent from federal government wat of other state...why are this people so self centered.

after they will come and tell us that tinubu and co develop lagos were as lagos was former capital dat was develop with nigeria common wealth money...

ofonjas are too lazy that they want every thing to be done for them.... no they should give lagos 50% not 1% mtchewww ... ingretes

useless people

for me southern nigeria remains south east and south south ... i hate everything about Yorubas

lagos state suppose to be contributing to others state because

upon all the monopoly that lagos state is enjoying this ofonjas are still not satisfied....

Funny.

I really doubt you are yoruba and even if you are, you are probably one of those agents that's been recruited to cause constant online tensions between yorubas and Igbos.

A group of northerners came around and screamed nay to a bill that'd have absolutely no effect to them and you come online to defend that decision with this petty excuse? Thats just low!

All the SE/SS senators should walk out of the senate for weeks and visit Donald Trump, other world leaders, International agencies and news media to explain this evil to the world

If this is done, the rest of the world will intervene concerning Biafra as an alternative since it is clear that they don't want progress in the SE/SS

My advice is for the senators of SE/SS to abandoned the chambers and do all those things listed above
Oga why don't you stick with SE pls. SS wasn't included in the bill so why rope them in?
