I finally got a male 10months supposedly pure breed GSD from a friend.the guy has alot of dogs and gave me this one free of charge.

The dog has been with me for 4days now and is very friendly to my daughter and other members of my family...the only issue is that this niggggah doesn't bark or display any form of aggressive traits.

You open the gate to drive in or out and he runs out of the compound into the street playing with anyone that he sees..I was so surprised when I saw the laundry man enter my compound an walked straight to knock on the door...all the dog did is follow him about...the laundry man even scratched the dogs head an played with him.

I need suggestions on how to make him aggressive and atleast bark or I will return him by month end.

I need a guard dog not some playful dude.

My recommendations from personal experience is..... keep the dog away from people (in the cage).

Seondly, try to disturb the dog whilst he's eating something peppery - this would have worked more when the dog was about 2months.

You are likely to get seriously bit by the dog at this stage!

Healthy happy pup! It's probably reflecting on the status of the happy family it is currently living with tongue

What the dog needs is training, but at 10 months old? I dunno mehn undecided

This dude is just too playful...he has never been kept in a cage all his life...anybody can come and scratch his head...I feel like returning him....very big beautiful dog with friend temperament.

It's annoying.

That's exactly why your friend gave you that particular dog. I have a dog bigger than this and more playful than this which is always in the compound. The aggressive one is always in the cage.
This your dog go follow thief play o

lol... boss... 4 days is just too little a time to get him or her to its true nature. you can't bring a new dog and expect it to become protective of its new environment. its still trying to know who belongs and who doesn't. put it more on a leash away from people. let it off leash for just one hour a day to socialise with those in your residence then free it at night.
little by little, it'll know those to stay loyal to and those to be aggressive towards. bottom line, keep it away from strangers.

Forget it, the dog won't bark. I bought a female dog through this site last September. The dog up till now doesn't back. The annoying part is the dog runs away from adult whether myself or visitor. I bought it for security but unfortunately it's useless

Keep him inside the house with you. Not out in the compound. He cannot be security over night in a house he just got to. If he is aggressive, you and your daughter would have been well bitten.

So at least for a month or 2 keep him inside the house. Let him out once a day either early morning for a walk (which is not necessary) or to poo or pee. And let his poo or pee be done at the back of the house. A specific area behind the building where no one see him do it. Keep him that way for 1 - 2 months then you begin to start the frustration technique. His aggression would start coming in.. little by little as he won't trust anybody again. Though he will forever like your laundry man.

When it barks and bites one of your kids, u'll still come back here to complain.

It was given to you for free, it's a gift.. Cherish it.

If you want a watch dog, go and buy a cross-alsatian.

Can I ask you a question?

Does he growl?

Growl means : Showing teeth and making a scary sound

at strangers?

That's good.

If I may ask again, are you guys the only one in the compound? does anyone else have free entry into the compound?

I think the dog is due to be set free. God forbid, if something happens now, and bad people come (in the afternoon), what will he do from the cage?

The job of the cage is to make him aggressive which has been done. Set him free to patrol the compound. That way, no one will enter without calling you first. I release my dogs to patrol my compound although I have 1 neighbor and my dogs are familiar with my neighbor.

Keeping a dog in cage and releasing at night alone isn't really necessary. He can even stay in front of your door. You can chain him to guard your door. Better than keeping him in cage.

Is he your first dog? I must tell you, don't force more aggression on him, instead let him love you and willingly protect you

Yes I stay alone

He is my very first dog

My wife and house help are so so scared dogs and will prefer he stays in his cage during the day....surprisingly my 1yr plus old daughter loves the dog and occasionally goes to play with him in his cage.

We release him at night and take him back into his cage at dawn....lovely dog..trying to get wifey to bond with the dog...we take occasional walk with him around our estate...it's a slow process but I'm hopeful they will bond soon.

Aha.. U've just illustrated true human nature.

Just a moment ago, u'd have had him returned.. And now it's all praises.

This is exactly how our politicians function. Change!!!

A) Yes i suspected he is your first dog. And i would appreciate that you understand that a 'dog' is technically 'family' if you don't want the dog to return to bite. I believe you have heard of stories where a dog bite its owner. What caused it?

Your wife and house help needs to grow to love the dog! If i may ask, who feeds the dog? You, i assume.

Your wife cannot avoid the dog forever. Otherwise, the dog may see her as 'opposition' and may attack one day. Your wife should be able to relate freely with the dog. My wife too was afraid of our first dog, today, we have 4 dogs.

B) Your dog SHOULD NOT bark at people on walks. It doesn't make him aggressive but dangerous. Your dog SHOULD NOT bark at anyone OUTSIDE your compound UNLESS you both are threatened or challenged. So you should train that dog. Do you have any training program or schedule? Or he just stays in the cage and eat?

C) Don't get a wife for such a dog not just yet. If your external family are yet to bond with the first male, is it now two? You understand bro?

Bro! I've encountered this kind problem before. I once had a gsd that was playful but things didn't remain the same when I applied these simple tips for 4 weeks. 1) got a cage behind the house in which I lock the dog 24/7 2)fed it heavily once a day with occasional raw meat added. 3) gave it *fluid sack* to swallow forcefully. My brother in just 4 weeks, he was transformed from a lamb to a lion. Try it and thank me later. Pls I need a gsd can you talk to your friend if he has any? 08167578382 whatsapp me

your dog playing with everyone doesn't make it stupid, some dogs tend to be mild with strangers. it just got to the environment, give it time to know who's family and who's not. currently it would welcome everyone because you welcome them. try shouting and going after someone then you'll see the dogs reaction to that person.
