The QS World University Rankings 2018 has been released and interestingly, out of the 959 universities across the world ranked, no Nigerian institution made the list.

In the latest ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States claimed the number one spot for the sixth time in a row.

The second spot was claimed by Stanford University, while Harvard University came third, having been second two years ago.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) was put in the fourth position, while the University of Cambridge was ranked fifth in the world.

University of Oxford remained at sixth, behind its arch-rivals Cambridge, while the University College London (UCL) stayed seventh.

Imperial College London climbed up at eighth, University of Chicago was put in the ninth place and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) wrapped up the top 10 universities in the world.

The University of Cape Town, South Africa, which is the top school in Africa, was placed in the 191th position in the world.

Of the 959 schools ranked by the QS World University Rankings, only 18 schools from Africa made the cut with South African schools claiming 9 different spots.

Business Post observed that five Egyptian universities made the list, while one school each from Kenya, Ghana, Morocco and Uganda completed the top 18 universities from Africa on the list.
