The Nigeria Football Federation will prefer that the Presidential Task Force stays away from them in Angola where they are prosecuting the on-going Africa Cup of Nations.

Their feeling is an indication that the cold war between them and PTF is worsening and even getting more pronounced. One of them spoke their mind yesterday, Eagles’s 3-0 pouncing on Mozambique apparently boosting their confidence.

“Tunisia are here with two aircraft. One flies their team to the venues and the other their fans. They have government support committee, an equivalent of our own PTF. However, theirs is working assiduously with their federation but one cannot say that of ours. Our PTF came here in their chartered aircraft which flew their members for about eight days and returned to Nigeria with all their members.

They plan to come again for quarter or semi-final. While they were here there was tension and our team couldn’t play well in our first two matches. They left and we played our best match. Is it not better they leave us alone? They have not helped us financially or morally. Rather, they create tension. And it is affecting us because we respect them. They are a Task Force from the Presidency and we ought to be working together.”

A member of the Task Force was rather surprised and reacted this way: “They (federation members) are naive and incompetent. Would Nigeria have qualified for the World Cup if we didn’t come in? Why do they panic when we are around? If they were doing well would the President have set up a Task Force? Their grudge is that the Task Force feels that Nigeria will do better with a foreign coach for the World Cup but they say that they want to swim or sink with Amodu.

Reasonable people who have the interest of the game at heart will not take such a position. They don’t really understand the game that they are running.”

Some members of the PTF have voiced their intention to take over the running of the federation. While some will welcome this others feel that it will count against their integrity especially following the allegation that these members want the Eagles to fail to ease their entry into the federation.

However, it is totally wrong to paint the entire Task Force so as some like the Chairman, governor Rotimi Amaechi, the Sports Minister Sani Ndanusa and John Mastroudes stand out. But is the federation, in the first place doing well? Nigerians know better.
