Jehovah's witnesses have used this verse since 1900 to recruit new members. They have changed their understanding of this verse so many times that its worthless to even try to understand it through the JW lense.
Below was their explanation years back

he's talking about ours & his own. when he said "this generation" he meant this sinful generation. the next generation is the 'regeneration' in which there wouldn't be any sinful life. when he would have executed judgments upon all off us then shall the righteous ones reign with him in his kingdom for a thousand years which is the regeneration. hpe u get?

This quote of Jesus in regards to the end times is found in Matthew 24:34; Mark 13:30; and Luke 21:32. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” The things that Jesus had been speaking of—the rise of the Antichrist, the desolation of the Holy Place, and the darkening of the sun—did not happen during the lifespan of people alive in Jesus’ day. Obviously, Jesus meant something different when He spoke of “this generation.”

The key to understanding what Jesus meant by “this generation will not pass away until all these things take place” is the context; that is, we must understand the verses that are surrounding Matthew 24:34, especially the verses prior to it. In Matthew 24:4–31, Jesus is clearly giving a prophecy; He is speaking of future events. Jesus had already told those living during His earthly ministry that the kingdom had been taken from them (Matthew 21:43). Therefore, it is imperative that Matthew 24–25 be seen as dealing with a future time. The generation that Jesus speaks of “not passing” until He returns is a future generation, namely, the people living when the predicted events occur. The word generation refers to the people alive in the future when the events of Matthew 24–25 take place.

Jesus came to the earth during the Pisces generation or age. He spoke with divine wisdom and vision because he is divinity personified. Fish is the symbol of Pisces and that answers the reason why fish played a symbolic role in the ministration of Jesus.

The statement he made simply states that before the Pisces generation is over, the global judgment happenings would have come to pass. After which, the Aquarius generation would then commence.

If you must know, the Pisces age is about to come to an end! So the Judgment is closer than we think!

Jesus didn't give any date or time, he only gave signs. Remember he said his coming would be like a theif in the night. To catch the unprepared unawares. Folks who give dates are cults that manipulate their members.

Truth will always stand the test of time. No matter what impostors will teach. We still see the signs up till this moment.

Jesus said "This Generation...", he was talking to people standing right in front of him. I dont think his audience needed a sign to understand who he was talking to.
And indeed, those people suffered in the hand of the Romans right before that generation died off.
People will extend this Jesus words into eternity as long as there are people to bamboozled

it's a divine truth and revelation given to saint john(one of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ) foretelling and a foreshadow of future events. not 'dem say'

Revelations20:1-14
The Thousand Years

1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
The Judgment at the Great White Throne

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell [1] delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The man Jesus was talking to a group of people, saying they will not have passed away before all those events take place, now you are quoting a book- revelation that was written 50 years later. How preposterous.
I guess that's why most thinking people are fleeing religion. Most of it dont make sense, it creates panic, fear and frustration that leads to irrational self defeating behaviors.

Go read the Jehovah's witnesses explanation of what that generation is and you will laugh as hard as you can. https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/290060001/simplified-suggestion-generation-1914

It's very certain that the Jehovah's witnesses new light on the "generation" doctrine will soon be changed for the 7th time.
Re: Matthew 24:34..."this Generation..." Which Generation Was Jesus Referring? by mikeolu1: 3:34am On Sep 20, 2017
According to Jehovah's witnesses in Matt 24:34 Jesus was referring to some "generation" of Jehovah's witnesses in the picture below.
All those people have died so they changed the interpretation of that verse to mean another group of Jehovah's witnesses who are presently in their 70s and 80s, saying that those people will not all die before Armageddon- new world as they say it, comes.
No wonder many are leaving the Jehovah's witnesses.
Failed failed failed predictions.

By the way here is what Jesus said in Matt 24:34: "Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away."

PaulGrundy and co have answered you but you seem bent on some other agenda.

What question was Jesus asked?

Was the question about what will happen to them in that generation?

How does his answers relate to the question?

These should be simple enough to help you get at a more reasonable position.

The Word of God told us that if we have a misty or unclear view about a verse in the Bible, it is due to OUR OWN weakness. We need the Holy Spirit to interpret the Word of God to various aspects of our lives-the Bible is not some sort of literature or poems- as regards "This Generation", this is the understanding I've got with the Grace of my Father God(Yeah, I BELIEVE HE lives in me, Gal 2:20):

He was referring to the "perverse generation". For this generation is an evil one and the Word of God affirms that truth. As long as the generation continues, it won't pass until all is fulfilled. This generation needs Christ just as 16th century people isn't it? What's the difference?

The Word said, just like the of Noah, so would it be at His coming and He said "This Generation" will not pass, ofcourse would it? None is holy and none is righteous...apart from that context, Jesus used the Word "This Adulterous Generation"does it mean this current one is not Adulterous??
