My choice is completely frivolous and not necessarily my favourite author in the world (although I do really like her). I'd pick Janet Evanovich. I don't think I have that much to learn from her, but it would be a totally fun night, and she seems like someone who doesn't take herself too seriously and would be funny and witty and just show you a good time and give you a light-hearted evening. However, if I wanted a serious conversation with an author, living or dead, then i'd totally pick Jane Austen, because she was witty and smart and insightful and wonderful at social commentary, but yet realized that we're all ridiculous and a bit pretentious even the best of us. So it would be good to discuss society and humanity with her. It's a hard question and there are other authors I could have picked, but just because I like someone's books, doesn't mean I want to have to sit and talk with them for hours. You don't have to like the artist to appreciate the art. |
