Congrats george d. You have really steped up. I have one question, why did you go for the 48v system and not the 24v system, i taught the 24v will give you more battery run time as you would only need 2 batteries and not 4 to make a paralle? Any special advantage of 48v?

tivta,

higher voltage systems allow you to use smaller diameter wires over longer cable runs. also the conversion efficiency of the inverter
is greatly improved when converting from a higher system voltage. thus 48v systems not only are more efficient over 24v systems,
they also save you money by allowing you to run smaller sized wires.

as for the run times, a 24v, 4 battery system, e.g 4pcs of 200ah batteries connected in series-parallel with give you the same runtime
as 4pcs of 12v 200ah batteries connected in series.

hope this clarifies?

the heart of the inverter system: the magnum e-panel!

it was a steep learning curve wiring the e-panel but at the end of the day, it was worth it.

the beloved 'voltage combiner' now gives way to a more robust e-panel.

who says diy must always be crude and untidy?

but only one more upgrade remains..... PLEASE paint that room, magnum na yanky o.

great upgrade, really worth the cash.

keep us informed on the workings of Battery Saver.

Congrsts on the upgrade. Please did you also upgrade your battery bank? Also what is your view on the tantalizing promises being made by the new owners of PHCN promising stable light shortly viz a viz the expense of an upgraded system like yours? Did d thot cross your mind whether 2 continue with your old system since it was already serving its purpose?

Thanks G.D
From my calculation and the info i got online, a 40 battery bank of 12v 200ah each with a 24v system with 50% dod will give 24000watts but the same set up with a 48v will only give 12000 watts. Am i right?

You are very wrong. For the same number of batteries your battery bank capacity will always remain the same no matter the system you use : - 12v Sys, 24v Sys, 36vsys 48v Sys etc
Total Battery Capacity = Ah x 12v x No. of batteries. Shikenan
Or
System voltage x Sytem Ah
Assuming you have 12 pieces of 12v@200Ah batteries.
Using equation 1
200 x 12 x 12=28800Wh (Watt-hour)

For a 24v system , your batteries will be in series of 2s parallel of 6 thus system Ah will be 200 x 6 =1200Ah
t/4 total battery capacity=24 x 1200=28800Wh

For a 48v you have 4batteries in series paralleled 3 , total system Ah is 200 x 3=600Ah
t/4 TBC =48 x 600= 28800Wh

0 - 100% DoD it still remain the same

This is confusing oh. From what i have read on http://www.freesunpower.com/faq.php the higher the system voltage the lower the battery capacity cause 48v system that runs on 12v 200ah battery will only give 200ah of power when used with 4 batteries in a series/paralle combination. G.D abeg whats your take? Phelex thanks anyway.
