Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by MeGaStReEt: 5:19pm On Feb 01, 2010
Egypt coach Hassan Shehata said it would be an "honour" to coach Nigeria at this summer's World Cup, but only on a temporary basis.

Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu is under increasing pressure after his side disappointed at the African Cup of Nations in Angola, despite a third-place finish.

The Super Eagles looked disorganised and unmotivated, with fans and pundits in Nigeria concerned at a lack of control over a squad filled with superstar egos and meddling officials.

The Nigerian FA feel that Shehata, a tough disciplinarian with a meticulous approach to tactical and physical preparation, would be the perfect man to get the best out of its underachieving team.

"They expressed an interest in hiring me to take charge of their team during the World Cup," Shehata told the TV station Modern Sport.

"It would be a great honour for me to work at the World Cup, but the Egyptian FA will have the final word on whether I can work with Nigeria on a temporary basis."

Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup after a narrow 1-0 one-off play-off defeat to Algeria, who they beat 4-0 in the African Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Nigeria face Argentina, South Korea and Greece in Group B of the World Cup in South Africa.

Disaster. . .
The problem with Nigerian football is beyond any world class coach to be honest. . .
The current crop of vagabonds with tired legs and old heads need to be sent packing first as well as the joke institution called the NFA. . .
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by naso2(m): 6:28pm On Feb 01, 2010
Nonsense. So our case don bad reach like this?

We seem to forget that this same shehata finished third in 2006 WC qualification series behind CIV and cameroon, . He also could not qualify for SA 2010. He is just an ANC specialist and nothing more.

Besides North Africans try to play like Europeans which is not necessarily what we need now. I will even vote that Amodu be retained instead of him.

Na wa o! Every coach now claims interest from Nigeria. Wasn't Shehata in charge when Egypt was completely outplayed & beaten blue & black by USA at last years Confederation cup? Give me a Samson Siasia anytime, anyday. . . .he's got what it takes. We definitely do not need Shehata or any other foreign coach.

Na wa oh!!! when will they offer Sani Lulu's job to a Foreigner?

This penchant for Foreigners is getting ridiculous.

If there is anything that needs foreign management it is the administration of NFF.

Sani Lulu should offer his own job to a foreigner too.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by sultan003(m): 7:35pm On Feb 01, 2010
All of a sudden, different types of foreign coaches are been linked with the nigerian job, if it is not shehata, it is leroy, Renre, Kaspersz etc,

NFF should not acting like a confused BEING.

This shehata self, i doubt if he will succeed outside egypt,

Yes, this is getting really ridiculous.

That would be a big time chess move by the NFF! Not another Bora Mulitinovic, Thijs Libregt or some P.E teacher from Sarajevo. I would be pleased if we do get him! Any astute footie fan would give their left nutsack to see the Super Eagles play like Egypt did

@na_so
Are you Frank Spencer in disguise? Your Super Vultures failed to qualify from a group of Angola, Rwanda & Zimbabwe so what you talking about? If Nigeria was in a group with Cameroun,CIV & Egypt we would lose all the matches home & away!! Even if CIV & Cameroun denied them qualification he has come back to beat them six times, 3 each in major tournaments
CIV
3-0,
Penalty shootout win, 4-1

Cameroun
4-2
1-0
3-1

Algeria sef go te and they ended up losing 4-zip in the rematch! Abeg give Shehata his props the man is a genius

Did you watch Egypt at the AFCON at all? If i where you i would go to Ori-oke to pray our Super Vultures play like the Egyptians

@semid4lyfe
Who was in charge when Egypt beat World Champs Italy? You? What of when they fought Brazil to a stand-still? The last time Nigeria played the Confed Cup Abacha was still in power. Siasia is not Shehata's mate abeg specie get level

This guy (shehata) was authoritatively quoted as saying during the AFCON 2010 that he can only work with players who practise Islam.
He is going to fail if he comes with this mentality, Nigeria is not Egypt. he attaches religious sentiment to team selections, it will not work.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by 2tait: 9:11am On Feb 02, 2010
Nigeria never ceases to amaze and amuse me!!

What is this again? Another adhoc, impromptu, uncordinated approach to solving the nation's sports woes?

Methinks Nigeria football problem is endemic. It is not just about the coach, it is a systemic problem.
With the kind of challenges facing the Super Eagles, even Pep Guadiola of Barcelona FC, Arsene Wenger of Arsenal, Fergusen, Ancelloti and any of the world class coaches will not be able to make an impact.

Let Amodu finish his work. Let's forget about making impact in the 2010 world cup. Let's start in August to build a structure and teams that will make us proud in 2022!

Insatiable Nigerian fans.
If a coach that won 3 consecutive nation's cup is not good enough for you then no coach
will ever be good enough for Nigeria.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by chakula: 3:24pm On Feb 02, 2010
The Nigerian players are rich, and also very difficult for
any coach to control, our advise here is, make use of junior super eagle team surely they perform better than the ------------------.

Shehata is a good coach, But i doubt if he will succeed outside Egypt.

http://www.mtnfootball.com/live/content.php?Item_ID=27266

Pharaohs manager Hassan Shehata has never been one to pull his punches and the charismatic and highly successful coach opened himself up to criticism and certainly debate when he stated that only dedicated followers of Islam would be considered for selection.

“Without it, we will never select any player regardless of his potential,” he said. “I always strive to make sure that those who wear the Egypt jersey are on good terms with God.”

One’s entitled to one’s opinion and religious beliefs, but in a today’s world where conflicts of religion threaten or have resulted in war, its arguable whether he should have publicly aired these views, or whether they should be even brought into sport.

Lets look at it this way.
You sat for a job test alongside 16 candidates/competitors.
at those times(3 times),you came 3rd(nigeria).
At those time, the 1st person(eqypt) was the only one employed.

Would you say you(amodu) are good after 3 failed attempts?

But Shehata is not a world cup coach. He has been unable to qualify Egypt for World Cup since 2004.
Within that period our own dear Amodu has achieved the feat TWO times.
I doubt if this Shehata guy can go far if taken by NFF.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by honeric01(m): 5:11pm On Feb 02, 2010
Amodu remains until Friday, he might even remain till August.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by vikiviko(m): 4:55pm On Feb 03, 2010
Shehata should take the job temporarily in the spirit of Africa union.

I prefer Oliseh to assist, he's disciplined and intelligent.

That is the foundation of a good coach.
Re: Shocking! Nigeria Bid For Egypt's Shehata by Uche2nna(m): 5:08pm On Feb 03, 2010
Thats why I have been calling for Amodu's sack with a lot of caution and apprehension. I know the NFF will make his replacement look like a joke angry
Shehata!!!! Are u freaking kidding me shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked Shehata has done really well for Egypt due to a number of reasons (from religion to most of the players plying their trade in the local league) however , I doubt if he will do well when thrown into the center of Nigerian football. The scenario is very different and players mentality and allegiances very complex. NFF is a freaking joke of a federation angry
