THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

I looked into the church building
Into the magnificent structures
The great Walls and beautiful design
The colourful paints and fine pews
The "exalted" platforms and podiums
But....
I couldn't find the church

A-ha! The church has left the building.
Why are you so concerned
With the state of the building
When the church has left the building?

Perhaps what interests you more
Is that people invest into the building
To keep it in good shape
But the church has left the building

You drive away people from the building
With messages of condemnation and doom
You judge them based on their appearance
You kill them before they have the opportunity to live
All because of the rules guiding the building
Whereas the church has left the building

Yet again, you could ask
Is the building not for the church?
Of course the building could be for the church
But beyond the building is "the Church"

Listen!
The church is no more comfortable with the building
In Acts where it all began
The building was not the major concentration
The focus was on building the church
Not on building a building for the church

You know why the church has left the building?
The building cannot contain the church anymore
The mission statement of the church
Is so great to be confined to a building

The church is not the building
The building is not the church
The church is the body
The body of Christ
I am the church, You are the church

Let's leave the building
Go into the world
Make disciples in all the nations
The world needs the church
The street needs the church
The ghetto needs the church
The "club" needs the church
Houses on the streets need the church
Families need the church
Those in prison need the church
Wandering little children need the church
That unbeliever needs the church

If all of the above would not go to the Church,
The church must leave the building and go to them
And teach them CHRIST

With gladness we shall come back into the building
And continue steadfastly in the Apostles' doctrine
With great Joy and Happiness!
