Kunle Afolayan has a New Production Company & Film Academy

The 5-time award-winning actor-turned-director, Kunle Afolayan is about to embark on a new career venture. Afolayan who has been immensely acknowledged for his movie, “The Figurine” recently launched his clothing line, Ire Clothings and released “Kunle’s Kembe” as the introductory collection.

“Kunle’s Kembe” is inspired by traditional baggy trousers of the same name, which have featured in many movies showcasing the Yoruba culture; Afolayan wore it to play his role in “October 1”. Since he commercialised them, a few celebrities have been spotted in the trousers.

Even the former governor of Lagos, Adewunmi Ambode has been photographed with a pair of “Kunle’s Kembe”.

Another bit of interesting news. A young Nigerian Ajayi Oluwatobi has launched his vehicle assembly line known as NORD MOTORS a.k.a Nordmotion.

In his service year, Tobi was posted by the NYSC to Mercedes Benz Nigeria. He went ahead to become the Head of Vans at MBN. He left and opened his own company, NORD.

Petrol and diesel versions of his trucks, are now available.

Bros, stop disturbing yourself over this issue. Even the op of this thread knows the truth. Despite the fact that Nigerian government favours the Yorubas, igbos still struggle and make their ways and are still the best in everything.

Yorubas can not bear half of what Igbos have suffered in Nigeria. Whatever they are showing here is still a child compared to Igbo achievement.

You should be ashamed to compare your tribe to a people that started from nothing after the war. If such comparison can be made it means the Ibos have really done well for themself starting from nothing and no Federal patronage even till these day. No other tribe in Nigeria can survive it.

This thread actually started as a joint effort by so many people, to highlight the contributions of Yorùbá people in the business and industrial world.

Members of a certain ethnic group, had been throwing lousy taunts, sly innuendos and outright insults, at others by claiming that Yoruba people knew next to nothing about business, and could not lay claim to success in the field.

A number of people saw it as an affront and proceeded to catalogue a list of successful enterprises, owned by Yorùbás, in order to confirm they could hold their own, anywhere within the business circle.

That was what led to this mini- project on Nairaland. It was created by a wondrful omolúabí woman named kn23h .

Both Yoruba indigenes and even non-Yorùbás contributed, in a spirit of camaraderie, fun and diligence. People like totit, Jetleee, wristbangle, Deomelo, okway, EvilMetahuman, Omofunaab2, ODVanguard, oodualover, MasterChen, robotix, hilroy, mercyville, Shukuokukobambi, OkutaNla, Basic123, etc.

But too many forces were opposed to this initiative. Even the owner of Nairaland and its moderators kept banning many of the contributors, each time we stood our ground against the falsehood of other ethnic groups, and their efforts to derail this thread.

Several contributors were vilified and got their accounts banned.

The thread was moved around and buried in some nondescript sections, where many people could not even get access to it.

We had to argue and plead on several occasions, to bring it back to the main section.

Some excellent contributors got discouraged and left. e.g. Deomelo, Dumaknasset, and others I cant even mention.

Even my good friend Laudate, who despite not being from the Southwest is an avid supporter of their efforts, got banned severally, from several days to months.

Anyway, this thread lost its flavour after a while when the main people departed.

I just log back in from time to time, just to check up on things in my friends absence.

Nairaland could have used this thread as a way to foster pride and excellence among different tribes, with different ethnic groups cataloguing the exploits of their own people.

Instead, Nairaland moderators did their best to kill it, and make sure it never served its purpose.

I would love to highlight all the new companies you mentioned, but I am afraid I wouldn't be able to do justice to them, without the support of the solid team, we had in here previously.......

It would take me quite a while to get back on track, and put up the profiles you had earlier highlighted.

Stripe acquires Nigerian start-up Paystack in $200m

Stripe is to buy Nigerian payments start-up Paystack for an undisclosed sum in its biggest acquisition to date.

The company, founded by Limerick-born brothers Patrick and John Collison a decade ago, previously led an $8 million Series A founding round for Paystack two years ago.

No financial details relating to the deal have been disclosed although TechCrunch valued the acquisition at over $200 million (€ 171 million).

Founded by Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi in Lagos in January 2016, Paystack has developed technology that lets businesses accept payments via credit card, debit card, money transfer and mobile money on their websites or mobile apps. The company employs over 100 people.

Through Paystack’s’s payments interface, customers can pay with local and international cards, or directly from their bank accounts. Paystack also supports localised payment channels, including mobile money, QR code and USSD payments. Every payment is screened by fraud-monitoring systems to protect merchants from chargebacks, and Paystack’s direct bank integrations ensure high transaction success rates.

Paystack’s suite, which currently includes collections, disbursements, identity verification, reporting and commerce tools, is currently used by 60,000 businesses across Nigeria and Ghana. The company, which processes more than half of all online transactions in Nigeria, has also just started a pilot in South Africa and is eying a move into other countries.

Hammed Ninalowo was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He left for the US, finished his bachelors degree in 2003, and graduated from medical school in 2010.

Right now, Ninalowo is one of the fewer than five practicing interventional radiologists in Nigeria, a country of 200 million people.

Hammed Ninalowo set up an organisation called IRDOC NIGERIA, with the aim of training an additional 100 interventional radiologists within Nigeria, over the next decade.

He looks forward to the launch of the first interventional radiology training programme in the country, later this year.

He said: "When I told my colleagues in America that I was considering performing a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS or DIPS: direct intra-hepatic portosystemic shunt) on a Budd Chiari patient in Nigeria, most said I was crazy."

After extensive planning, Ninalowo and his team were able to pull the procedure off, with an amazing clinical success.

Today his expertise is in great demand at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, a high-brow topnotch medical centre, located in Victoria Island, Lagos. He doesn't believe he is doing anything special. He keeps saying: "We are simply on a mission...."
