Day 31 Vitalyte today They finished the 8th bag of feed yesterday. Opened the 9th bag this morning. Birds rate of feed consumption has doubled. |

They started anticossi(Amprococ) today,to be taken for 3 days. Taking the last shot of the 9th bag of feed tomorrow morning.Only God knows how many bags they are going to consume by 8-10th week. Got scent,Bitter and Neem leaves today.blended them and put in separate containers in the fridge.this is to be added to their water when necessary. |

tasho105:Well done,Tasho.I have questions.Please,from experience,how many bags do you suppose 50 broilers will eat from day old to 9weeks?What was the average weight of your chickens which you culled at 9wks?How much presently can one get for a 9wk old broiler if you are selling to those who will resell?I hope you didn't have too much mortality?Thanks. |

obaaderemi: 1.See this breakdown on 50 broilers From 0 - 15days - 1 bag of feed 16 - 25days - 1 bag 26 - 33days - 1 bag They were now consuming 1bag in 5 - 6 days. So let say like 9 - 10 bags in 9wks. 2.Average live weight at 9 wks - 2.5kg 3.Selling cost depends on you location and market availability.At the frozen Chicken market in Abuja,they buy at N1200 per kg(dressed weight) 4.Mortality depends on the quality of your birds and biosecurity.Being the first project batch mortality was high,at 9 weeks I culled 43 birds.This has improved though. |

tasho105:This is very enlightening.I have a pen that looks just like yours in Ibadan and I have been thinking of doing this as a second stream of income.Now,I believe broilers are more profitable than cockerels.My cockerels mature at 5months.From your analysis,It would be quite profitable if I could get 1500 for a live broiler in Ibadan. |

Depends on the age and type of the bird and for how long do you intend to raise them? If they're broilers you want to keep above 12 weeks and for your space of 234sqft I would recommend nothing more than 100 birfs depending on the pen design also! Just bought 100 broilers from poultry plaza and a friend is say l need to give intraocular vaccine. I called poultry plaza, they said is not neccssary that l should follow the treatment chart given to me. The intraocular vaccine is it a must do? |
