What does Lagos mean?

Answer: Lakes.

This was thought to be appropriate for the Portuguese city and that of Nigeria, with that name.

Lagos means Lago short form for Lagoon.
a lagoon can not be called a land therefore it belongs to the Dahomey but since dahomey isn't in Nigeria anymore, then no one one can claim it. therefore no one owns it,

Lagos is not part of Western Nigeria in the Nigerian constitution, Lagos is a former capital of Nigeria and developed by Nigeria money, no tribe in Nigeria has wright to claim Lagos as it own, lagos is owned by Nigerians who invested in it, it is a NO MAN LAND for allNigerians been the former capital of Nigeria for decades. The only indigenous people in Lagos is the Aworis, Egun and Ijaw and rest are migrants. Abuja is been developed with Nigeria oil money now after former tribes living in it will come claim Abuja as their own and start threatening other Nigerians that have invested heavily in it to make it what is it to leave Abuja for them just like what some Yorubas is doing in Lagos. They want to reap where they did not sow.

There is no Ijaw that is native to Lagos or Lagos State.

Any Ijaw in Lagos is no different from a Kanuri or Igbo man in Lagos.

If any Ijaw man claims to be from Lagos or Lagos State, let him tell us the name of his Ijaw village that is situated in Lagos.

Awori - Lagos Island, parts of Badagry, Ikeja, Ijaiye-Ojokoro.
Egun - Badagry.
Ijebu - Epe, Ibeju Lekki, Ikorodu, colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Egba - colonial settlers on Lagos Island, parts of Ijaiye-Ojokoro.
Returnee freed slaves (West indies/Sierra Leone) - colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Returnee freed slaves (Brazil and Cuba) - colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Eko nobility of Lagos - Lagos Island, Ikoyi, VI Oniru, Ijora.

Those that own Lagos have already claimed it, and with existing traditional and cultural institutions already well established and entrenched.

So your opinion about having rights to claim or not is already too late, and irrelevant.

Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnn . Same old story by typical pained Igbo. Lagos knows who owns it, those who owns it know Lagos. Go and claim anioma first before you come carry Lagos matter for head. We are tired of this cry of Lagos no belong to no man already. Anyone that want to die can die. If Lagos is not Yoruba land, then it must be your father land be that.

Go and tell Hausa that Abuja is no man's land. We Yoruba know that abuja is aboki land. So your cry cry here can't change what has already existed. You can go to state house to continue your cry. Or go to national assembly Abuja to cry to them.

Lols....may be it was their father & not a Lagos Oba the colonialists signed the treaty that made Lagos a British colony in 1861, long before anywhere called Nigeria.

Why didnt you ask him why he bares a yoruba name. The benin empire once colonized lagos which is awori dominated awori is a yoruba tribe.d oba of benin sent his warrior to rule lagos while it was colonized but in d end the aworis a yoruba tribe still dominated eventually took over the mantle of rulership and changed the name of the title to oba.which on its own is an insult to the oba of benin to bare d same title apportioned to his warrior.the oba of lagos even stop paying homage to oba of benin therefore no longer recognising his authority in lagos before d British colonized nigeria.so mr dementia i ask you who owns d land.just because d british colonized nigeria doesnt mean the british prime minister heads the nigerian govt.Get your facts right before you start spreading ignorance
