Computer science seemingly has more calculations for those who think that chemical engineering is all about chemistry and chemicals. Every single course in chemical has calculations. Difficult ones at that. By the time u start a solution by guessing two parameters and after spending 30mins in calculations and it doesn't converge, u will come back and guess again that's wen u will prefer packing ur lot with computer science 56 Likes 7 Shares |

Ok... let's view it this way Engineering vs science which has more calculations..? My answer Engineering. I don't know much about chemical engineering, but I studied Electrical Eng at HND level and I'm presently pursuing BSc in Computer science and the mathematical calculations/analysis in com. Science is nothing compared to what I faced in My Nd2/HND 1, HND2 was hell in the cell Match which had 4×4 matrix in it  and others that I can't even remember now, I'm in my 400level com science, and engineering is the baba of calculations.49 Likes 5 Shares |

Except in fields like Data Science, Machine/Deep Learning, you cannot compare the maths to Engineering.. Yes, you do crazy maths in CS, but on the same level as engineering? Not exactly That is why in those fields of computer science I mentioned, if you don't have a degree, you have no chance working on such techs.. . Bottom line is: except in advanced fields of computer science, you don't actually need crazy maths... But when you do, it's actually on the same scale as engineering (cos it is engineering itself). 9 Likes 1 Share |

You want less calculations, don't think of engineering. Engineering is calculations. I studied petroleum engineering, yet 70% of the course is calculations. But now I have to be reading the theoretical part as this is the background for field work. After rereading I think the OP wants to know how many maths courses are needed. I think it's about the same, though chemical might have more maths that have been invented to easily solve engineering problems (linear algebra, matrices, complex numbers, Taylor series, Fourier transforms, etc). There's really no calculations in computer science. It's mostly about logic, algorithms, and organizing data (search, sort, store). You won't see mathematical formulas much, and those you see are relatively trivial. Of course you might use a computer algorithm to solve a chemical engineering formula (but that's applied/engineering, not computer science). The two fields are very different and have their easy and hard parts. 10 Likes |
