Chemical Engineering has more calculations, plant design, Heat and Mass, Fluid Mechanics, in addition to calculus/algebra/,logic.
The pure chemistry is just 15%, Biology 5%, and then 80% calculations mainly involving guesses, control of parameters/conditions and lengthy processes. In chemical engineering the process and design is more important.

Calculations??

Unfortunately these ones are not regarded as engineering in terms of calculation.
If you ever want to discuss engineering and calculations.

Then you should be talking about Structural Engineering.

I studied civil engineering and structural engineering is within civil engineering. Nothing is special about structures. It's courses like chemical thermodynamics, strength of materials, advanced engineering mathematics ,etc that make engineering difficult.

After rereading I think the OP wants to know how many maths courses are needed. I think it's about the same, though chemical might have more maths that have been invented to easily solve engineering problems (linear algebra, matrices, complex numbers, Taylor series, Fourier transforms, etc).

There's really no calculations in computer science. It's mostly about logic, algorithms, and organizing data (search, sort, store).

You won't see mathematical formulas much, and those you see are relatively trivial. Of course you might use a computer algorithm to solve a chemical engineering formula (but that's applied/engineering, not computer science).

The two fields are very different and have their easy and hard parts.

Mr Man. There are thick Mathematics in computer science. It only depends on it's Applications.

Hello OP, why scared of calculations in the first place? If you are not cool with mathematics or anything close to calculations then just forget courses like chemical engineering, mathematical sciences and comp. science. Those courses have calculations, just that chemical engineering is more.

Don't let anyone deceive you, chemical engineering has nothing much do to with chemistry like you all assume, it's much more of mathematics.then physics followed by chemistry. This is the same mistake most students applying for chemical Engineering make year in year out. Even economics is another important part of Chemical Engineering.

Don't confuse advanced mathematics with mathematics done by engineers. Most advanced mathematics has nothing to do with calculations. They are analysis based on logic. If you take courses in mathematics or computer science hoping to solve mainly calculus problems you may be disappointed. Mathematics done by mathematicians or computer scientist is mainly about proofs and modelling. As a mathematician you may be required to prove that 1 is the smallest natural integer, model real world situations into mathematical equations and so many more.

It is from these models that engineers use to solve engineering problems.

It depends on the country you are studying. In Nigeria, Chemical Engineering will have more rigorous calculations than Computer Science. However, in advanced countries, computer science is more than just learning few old programming languages, Boolean algebra, logic gates, etc. Artificial intelligence, Machine learning, Image processing, etc are key areas in Computer science, and you will encounter more rigorous maths than what you can find in Chemical Engineering.

this isn't supposed to be a comparison bcus computer science isn't just called computer science it's called Computer science and Mathematics

In UNN, we have Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics. How then are they together?

i think chemical eng has more calculation, only data structure and algorithm and complexity analysis may give u tough time in year 3 and 4 but the calculation are not that hard just applied mathematics. i only offered one maths course in year 3 and it was a cognate elective but i think chemical do maths till the graduate. but there are alot of courses in CS that requires enough cracking of brain.

Computer science seemingly has more calculations for those who think that chemical engineering is all about chemistry and chemicals.
Every single course in chemical has calculations. Difficult ones at that. By the time u start a solution by guessing two parameters and after spending 30mins in calculations and it doesn't converge, u will come back and guess again that's wen u will prefer packing ur lot with computer science
Engineering courses are more mathematical than any other science courses, chemical engineering has nothing to do with chemistry, apart from 100 level chemistry prerequisite, you have anything to do with chemistry again. Courses in chemical engrg: chemical engineering thermo dynamics, chemical kinetics, chemical control, separation process, petrochemical, genetics and others

I'm no talking of the borrowed courses people do in 100 and 200 levels.
I am talking about the core dept. Courses.
Even for core departmental courses, in chemical you still have more calculations, Thermodynamics 1 and 2, Transport Phenomena, Unit operations, process optimization, process dynamics, etc.
In separation processes and plant design, you work with assumptions and you mordify as you go along. In unit operations you work with graphs and iterations along that line. It's all about the process in chemical engineering, but it's interesting.

I mean don't be deceived by the name chemical, the chemistry there is not so much, and usually in your first and second year.

This is not correct.

Before any computer science student starts Algorithm Analysis and the likes, you need to have a proper understanding of some maths concepts.

I am a Computer Science Undergraduate and I did all this maths concepts you listed and many more (Linear Algebra, Abstract Algeria, Taylor's series, MacLaurin, Fourier And Laplace Transform). And many more.

To the OP, the only difference is most maths done in computer science are not exactly calculations, they are e mainly analysis, just understanding concepts and replicating them, not the Gung Ho maths.

I also made the mistake of thinking chemical was all about chemistry, but the diversification in chemical is good for the brain, there is the polymer, mechanical aspect, HYSYS, etc.

How can anybody even think computer science has maths.

Computer science is all about logic. The highest maths they can have is conversion from base 10 to base 2 or base 16.

Nonsense.
close your mouth when you don know what to say

Programming involves calculations and strong one for that matter.
