FORGIVENESS is not strange to an average person in the church cycle. We have already discussed the God to man facet of forgiveness. We want to talk on FORGIVENESS OF HUMAN. We hurt people and people generally offend us, intentionally or unknowingly. How we handle this pains and still maintain Christlike forgiveness is the apple of discord. It is in the human nature to offend and no perfection can deny that. There are some situations that hurt beyond the very life... Forgiveness is not a joke at this second level. When you are disappointed or hurt by a trusted individual... Forgiveness becomes harder and almost impossible. It takes the work of grace to take away offenses. A painful event may sometimes needs praying to God to help in order to be able to forgive in some situations. Sometimes, an offended man may behave to forgive but the intention of repaying will hang deep on the inside, but When we actually forgive, remembering it will not bring bitterness. In this human forgiveness level, we must understand :
1. The Concept : Human beings don't generally forgive easily... Good deeds are written on water, bad deeds are inscribed on brass.
2. The Choice : Forgive and forget as we use to say doesn't exist in the term we use it. We FORGIVE, we do not forget but WE CHOOSE TO FORGET., as we said of God the last on justification. We can forgive in the real sense, but the word 'forget' in the ideal sense is not supposed here. Brains are given to us to remember. Even if you can't remember things, it shows a memory loss problem that needs prayer. As I have said before, it means, choosing to forget. I choose to count it as if it has never happened. I forgot it
3. The Clarity: A true test of forgiveness is your thoughts towards the person when you see him/her. Never say you have forgiven if you don't discuss the offense with the person. It is not real and Bible does not teach that. Besides, telling others of the pain is not the first step in resolving offenses, the best way is to tell the person first.
4. The Consciousness : Always be prepared that your most trusted person will offend you one day, prepare your heart to forgive the worse when it comes. You may have to pray yourself into brokenness to forgive in some cases.
5. The Cancelation : Salvation can be canceled by unforgiving heart... Read the parable of the unforgiving servant and see it's effect. Never expect divine forgiveness if the human forgiveness is not resolved and reached.
6. The Canker: Bitterness is a root(Hebrews 12:15-16), you need to dig deep into the heart to see the hurts seed sown.
7. The Counter: Never think of retaliation or revenge... You will be dethroning God... Vengeance is mine, says the Lord.
8. The Construction : Always place a positive construction on all things to avoid yourself having hypertension at young age.
9. The Critical: In case of critical cases, you may need to go for real counseling.
10. The Conclusive: Don't live a life of mistrust because you have been failed on several occasions. All men are bad, says some people. How many thousand have you met?
