Peptic ulcer disease is a spectrum of disease involving the stomach,duodenum resulting from inability of the stomach and duodenum to regulate the acid and base in its environment.

HOW IS ULCER CONTRACTED?
Peptic ulcer disease is a multifactorial disease caused by a number of factors.However a bacteria was implicated in the development, Helicobacter pylori.
This bacteria is transmitted faeco-orally.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE ULCER?
It requires series of laboratory investigation but the following symptoms are suggestive:
-Upper abdominal pain/discomfort worsened by hunger and/or eating
-Vomiting(+/- blood)
-Indigestion
-Heartburn
-Upper back pain
-Recurrent belching
-Bloating
-black stool among other

IS IT HEREDITARY?
Not exactly, but there some genetics have been implicated.So family history is a strong factor.
People with A blood group also found to have a higher incidence as well.

WHAT CAUSES IT?
As earlier stated it is multifactorial.Some risk factors includes:
-Family history of Ulcer
-A blood group
-Over the counter analgesics(especially NSAIDS)
-Alcohol
-Helicobacter pylori infections
-Consumption of Spicy foods
-Consumption of carbonated drinks
-Tomato paste
-Abusive use of steroids among others

CAN IT CAUSE PASSAGE OF BLOODY STOOL?

Dear , do sorry to hear that . my lil sis had peptic ulcer for 6yrs . Till my cousin introduced
