Pls, name the best I.T. institute you know and how recognised the certificate is. (NIIT, APTECH, KAROX)

Cos I want to put in for Java programming but I heard different stories about each institute. So my fellow brother please your contribution counts. tanx

Well, as for me, I would prefer you try Aptech because i learnt they have good teachers and i av seen alot of their books which is of standard.

I attended NIIT and their problem is that you either have books and no lecturer or you have lecturer and no books. More-so,90% of their lecturer are book held lecturers not programmers. but they also have good books.

you are better off learning programing on your own don't waste your money on any of those bogus schools

and who told you that we are not living good after we taught ourselves. when you sure of yourself you can go to a site like brainbench.com and do a certificate exam. shekinah

you will save yourself the money and stress,

NB: you need to be very determione & discipline to be a very good self-taught programmer.

Yeah you do.No doubt NIIT certificate is well known but they are living on past glory they have lost it where as Aptech also command respect.With Aptech ADSE certificate you can enroll to certain no of sch abroad, about 80% of them

Bt i ws at NIIT, ikorodu branch. Though i didn't long bt d little i saw was impressive. Their teacher, the evironment and the classes full A.C.

Their fee 4 java programming is 165k whc u r allow 2 pay 3 times. Can any one giv me d price of APTECH 4 6months course in java programming

Even when i thought i knew nothing. Hand on desk- I was better than many of those NIIT lecturers. U will come out of there with a certificate without skill believe me.

Big Deal i school at Aptech they are not meant to teach u everything as a programmer u shud strive hard to personally update yourself so Niit/Aptech will teach u then in-depth skills because they are not neccessary,once you know a basic ,advanced methods are meant for u to study and read documentations on implementation and uses.i want to code on Nokia Phones shud i wait till aptech offers it as a course.Strive to Self Development

I school at APTECH (or it would be appropritate to add 'used to') at APTECH. Baabs, if you are looking to get real skills, don't go to APTECH or NIIT. I've not been to NIIT but I know they cant be different from APTECH.
When I joined, I was also studying on my own. I joined because like you i wanted to have a certificate but I have realised that its not worth it at all. A lot of their teachers do not know their beans. A faculty was once telling us that annotations are a type of class (when you study more of java you would understand). I've also heard things like once you see a word followed by an open brace, then code, then closed brace, what you have is a class. That is completely wrong. A basic example is static intialisation blocks which have the word 'static' and then code enclosed in braces. Even better are instance initialisation blocks which are just codes enclosed in braces, no keyword. In simple English, a class can only be defined by using the keyword class before the class name, then you can add access keywords and then keywords that extend the class or implement an interface etc.

I learnt all there examples I am giving you on my own thats why i was able to know that my APTECH faculties were just teaching us crap. If you have the money, first get a laptop (i'll recommend more than 80GB, minimum of 2GB RAM and processor 1.67GHz x 2). There are a lot of free books that you can read to build yourself up (i can give you links if you want). When you have learnt and have tested yourself, pay for certification exams.

However, like you said, if you need to find a job, a certificate would help. Me, I read Economics in school (2.2). I was tricked into doing that course but the love is still there so I'm registering for UNILAG's PGD in Computer science. My PGD in computer science plus certifications in Java, A+ will definetely get me a job faster than the APTECH ADSE I was chasing because I have found out that the ADSE is not even really recognised. Its only if you follow it up and get the BSC that it will be of any use to you.

Please, go on self study. I'm still a learner so we can always rub minds, start and share projects, exchange books and stuff. Think about it

Hey, I know this post is old and the OP has probably deduced what he came looking for but still i had to post for the sake of future questions like this so that a new thread would not be started but this can be recurrent.

First i have been to both NIIT and APTECH.
I started with NIIT Port Harcourt, left and went to APTECH Abuja(Oyo House) and switched back to NIIT Warri.

Switching back to NIIT Warri was not because of the quality of their teaching but because finance and work took me to warri(Where Aptech was absent).
For you to be a Web Programmer, Database Administrator, Software Developer or Network Specialist well worth his/her onions then you must come into the world of IT with a self-study, give-it-your-best-shot approach and be ready to learn and develop yourself while enrolled in any of the IT Schools.
I personally prefer Aptech because
1. Their timing is accurate and way better than that of NIIT, 2 years is 2 years with delay of at most a month
2. They are more organised in terms customer service and resource allocation
3. Their course is more diverse

NIIT also has their benefits
1. They have wonderful Infastructure
2. They have by far the most self explanatory books in IT Training in Nigeria
3. They have more centres and afford great flexibility for transferring from one city(centre) to another

NIIT Instructors otherwise known as faculty are however not as impressive across all modules, some are manageable and others are downright pathetic, in terms of instructors Aptech comes out victorious. This does not preclude the student from LEARNING ON HIS/HER OWN because you can go to NIIT, APTECH, KARROX; hell you can even go to MIT America and still come out with nothing but beans water in your head and a certificate in your hand if you refuse to give your best shot at self development too.

MY ADVISE TO ALL IS SIMPLE: Choose a school based on your preferences.
1. NIIT has better flexible payment options, APTECH is more exigent in terms of flexible payment
2. APTECH has better timing(A scheduled 2 year course in NIIT can easily change into 3 years)
etc.

Although i am studyin in MIIT,(Mikon Institute) in @benin close to NIIT, its was good, cos i learn how to build websites and design, and now i can
Design a website, but the problem with d scool now is dat dey didnt teach us programing,and its was so so coldfussion dey taught us though its good, but i still want programming, so many pple have told me dat i cud teach myself which i have started learning small small, am currently in cartoon animation(3D/video,audio edting class)

I can't beleive people are still taking certificates from these schools. The best certificate you can get is the one from the company that created the product that you're using eg Oracle, Cisco etc.

Karrox is not na good place to learn programming or networking, They will only give you theoretical knowledge with no practical sense.

53cur3m0d3: I studied @ NIIT and I can recommend them cos they do 95% practical and it's a great institute.I studied Java Programming with them and something more I can boast of to anyone anywhere anytime is that they first take U Microsoft Office package for the first month which is added benefits..I'm a solid java programmer cos now that I'm on ma own,I can always fall back on ma NIIT books cos they're so so self-explanatory..and as per instructors/faculty,it depends on the individual,teachin is an inborn ability.I'm a gud programmer but I'm not gud @ teaching but I learnt from one of the best teachers at NIIT Akure in person of Faculty Emma..not only is he a guru,but he's also a TEACHER..

sorry man,NIIT books are custom-made so U'll neva find them outside except the NIIT community..google stuffs on wateva U want and U'll get them...moreover,if U can't afford a course which costs more,there are other good options that cost less around 50k,60k etc and the good news is "U pay in 3 installments" so it's kinda easy..I hope U think up something
