When George Washington said "government is force," he meant that government is force against its own people.

Since by definition government is force, then it follows that government will use any ruse imaginable to increase its power. Increased use of government force or power could backfire unless skillfully handled and justified in the public mind. Therefore governments rarely take action unless accompanied by skillful propaganda.

In the case of the Buhari led administration, propaganda comes after the deed has been done as we all witnessed in the bloody and vicious military clampdown of IPOB members and civilians in Abia.

The govt has defended it's criminal action as part of their constitutional duty to protect Nigeria's unity and also Nigerians from what they have described as the potential terrorist threat and tendencies that IPOB poses. Notwithstanding that the military action in and around Abia killed more Nigerians in one day than Boko Haram can ever boast of in a month!

Note the words "potential threat" above. I chose those words carefully to reflect the official statement credited to the minister of information, Lai Mohammed.

In issuing the proscription order on IPOB, Lai Mohammed did not state any act of criminality or terrorist act that IPOB had engaged or was engaging in, but rather stated that the seccesionist movement had become a threat to national unity and stability over the composition of the Biafran Security services (an unarmed uniformed group of IPOB members).

At the core of the govt's opposition to the Biafran cause to which other non-Igbiod people share, is the invoilibilty of the Nigerian state - a cause which demands every Nigerians total support.

The cornerstone therefore, is patriotism which the Buhari govt intends to use to rally support against IPOB and those sympathetic to Biafra restoration.

By employing patriotism, the govt has launched a direct assault on our liberties by legitimising their assault on our collective rights to freedom of expression and association. The mantra "one Nigeria" is now the new anthem to be recited and repeated and anyone objecting to this shall be deemed unpatriotic and labelled a terrorist.

This is the tyranny of exploited and bastardized patriotism.

A patriot is one who is committed to uplifting his nation by contributing to her success through selfless hard work, productivity and constructive criticism. A patriot is thus not a zombie like Sarrki who keeps reciting his loyalty to Buhari and the APC.

The constitution does not even guarantees the President our loyalty as there is no where loyalty to the President by the citizens equates to patriotism. Only men of the armed forces and those appointed by the President are expected to be loyal to him.

The zombies that loiter this forum with their religious patriotism to Buhari should not expect us all to follow suit. After all, when GEJ was in power, where was their patriotism to Nigeria?
