It’s not enough to simply have a dream, you have to actively pursue it. The sad truth is that most people who talk about their dreams fail to do something about it, and they end up with a life they don’t recognize. First, there are excuses. “the economy sucks”, “I’m not naturally smart/athletic/gifted”, “I don’t have enough time”, you get the idea. The second thing we often see is that they are okay in their respective comfort zones doing the bare minimum to go along in life and that their dreams will magically fall into place for them. Having a side hustle is mandatory for people and entrepreneurs who want to achieve their dreams. In case you haven’t noticed, the world economy is evolving at a fast pace, it is no longer enough to be an employee and achieve you dream especially people with BIG dreams.
Hustling is doing whatever you have to do, for however long you have to do it, until you reach your goal. I’m talking about the work-like-hell-while-your-competitions-party that is being-the-hardest-worker-you-know kind of hustle. Great men like Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote are known to be chronic hustlers. Abraham Lincoln stated “Things may come to those who wait…. But only things left by those who hustle”. Thomas Edison patented thousands of inventions and perfected the light bulb because he spent all day hustling, he simply never gave up. World’s Richest man; Bill Gates once stated he never took a day off in his 20s. African’s Richest man; Dangote stated in an interview that he works 18hours in a day.
Interestingly, a lot of these great men who succeeded through hustling weren’t born with natural abilities or talents. In fact, most of us are average individual on the same playing field as millions of people; great men, billionaires etc and they are all your competition. And yet, despite our average mind most of us believe deep down that we are destined for something extraordinary, that we are special. People may think, “I want what Mr. A has but I just don’t have his X, Y or Z”. Meanwhile, we don’t have any control on the number of natural abilities or gifts we were born with, we do have complete control over how much we can hustle.
Having a side hustle demand lots of sacrifice; watch next to nothing TV, less party, less clothes, sleepless nights, being broke by investing all your income into your hustle, less friends etc. If you tired of your crappy job with low wages, hustle your way to get a new job with higher wages. The economy isn’t encouraging and unemployment is on the rise, and you will be competing with a lot of people for limited jobs. Maybe you will have to stay late nights or attend extra lessons in order to beef up your resume and if you are tired of working for someone, start your own business. You don’t have to quit your job to start your own business, you can work on your job, and by moonlight with your own business until you established to quit your corporate job. You will have to hustle to get to this point.
Do you have a side hustle? You should if you want to achieve your dreams. If we all start hustling, we can make things happen; in our own life and in the world around us. It won’t happen right away, but it will happen.
