Me and my mum had been driving for
hours.
We were driving across the country so
mum
could attend a business conference and I
had gone with her to keep her company.
Normally my sister, Alison, went with mum
on these sort of trips but she had a ballet
show back home so I had gone instead. I
didn't mind, I enjoyed spending time with
my mum.
Finally we arrived at the hotel. We checked
in
and went up to our room. Because it was
a
work trip mum's firm had paid for the
whole thing and put us up in a very nice
hotel. It was a large, double twin room.
Two
double beds each with it's own dresser,
night stand and wardrobe. There was a
large sofa with a coffee table in front of it
and a a TV on a stand in front of that. In
the
corner there was a table with four chairs
around it. I dumped my travel bag on one
of
the beds, mum did the same. “What do
you
want to do for dinner, David?” Mum asked
me “We could go out or order room
service.”
“I've never ordered room service before,
that sounds fun.”
“Good idea, it was a long drive and staying
in will be much easier. I'll order us a bottle
of wine as well.” Mum used the room
phone
to call and order our dinner. Whilst she
was
on the phone I checked out the rest of the
room. We had an en suite just as luxurious
as main room. It had a large walk in
shower,
a large bath tub and two sinks in front of
a
big mirror.
“The bathroom's really nice,” I said to
mum
just as she hung up the phone “I think a
hot
bath is in order.”
“That sounds like a great idea. Dinner will
only be ten minutes so you should wait
until
after though.”
Our food turned up promptly along with
the
bottle of Chardonnay mum ordered. Mum
opened the wine straight away and
poured
a glass for each of us. We sat at the table
and ate our dinner. Mum told me about
the
conference she had in the morning, I
listened but her work always seemed very
boring to me. I told mum about how I was
getting on at college, mum seemed more
interested than I was. Soon our glasses
were getting empty and mum poured
more
wine for both of us. “What about girls?”
She
asked as she put the wine bottle down.
“What? What do you mean?” I had always
been very open with my mum and I didn't
have any problem talking to her about
girls
but there really wasn't a lot to talk about.
“Well...are you seeing anyone?”
“No. Not lately.”
