Uber has appointed Lola Kassim as its new General Manager for West Africa.

Kassim, a seasoned professional with over 10 years of global experience, will be responsible for driving Uber’s overall strategy for West Africa, which includes improving reliability and service levels for uber, says Uber in a statement.

While accepting the appointment, Lola said she was pleased to join Uber at a pivotal point in the company’s growth and expansion curve.
“My vision for West Africa, in particular, is to ensure that we are aligned with Uber’s overall objective of creating sustainable, alternative modes of mobility. I will also focus on ensuring that we continue to engage with our key stakeholders and relevant partners with a view to continue positive impact across West Africa,” she stated.

Speaking on the new appointment, Alon Lits, Uber General Manager Sub-Saharan Africa, said: “As a company that is deeply committed to diversity and inclusiveness, we are excited to have Lola join the team of other incredible women at Uber.”
The statement noted that the new General Manager had spent three and half years, prior to joining Uber, as a Management Consultant at McKinsey and Company.

She also worked as a Governance Advisor with the Liberian Presidency through the Africa Governance Initiative, supporting a unit driving delivery of presidential infrastructure priorities.

She began her career with the Canadian government where she served as Policy Advisor to senior officials and managed units developing policy, strategy, and business cases regarding socio-economic development programming for Canada’s Aboriginal communities and foreign policy,” the statement added.
A Nigerian-Canadian, Kassim holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and MSc from the London School of Economics where she was a Chevening Scholar.

Hmnnnnnn.... Uber has been doing a great job... At least from my experiences with them, their drivers are social and respectable except for some 2%. I hope she helps improve the quality of their service and their market share. And not become another Buhari and APC whose rise to power brought untold hardship to Nigerians.

I pray Uber works on some protocols certain drivers love fighting on, like insisting you can't use the back seat as the only passenger
Re: Uber Appoints New GM For West Africa by bigtt76(f): 10:24am On Oct 21, 2017
Uber and all these foreign companies with subsidiaries in Africa need to understand that it is not about hiring a Havard or Princeton or Ivy League graduates to head their operations rather they need to look inwards to the people in and around the locations they have operation.

The problem with Uber West Africa is such that someone who has been away from the scene would find it difficult to comprehend and understand the urgent need behind such agitation nor find a solution.

Some of the drivers lack orientation. They don't know how to relate to their passengers. It's not about being educated or not;some of the drivers are university graduatez but still behave like illiterates.
