HOW TOBACCO FIRMS VIOLATES TEENAGE AND REGULATIONS IN NIGERIA
source : http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2017/10/how-tobacco-firms-violates-teenage-ad.html

A new Nigeria research data has revealed how big tobacco companies violet legal framework which provides against advertising to young and vulnerable children.
The Nigerian Tobacco Control Research Group (NTCRG) and the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth (ERA/FoEN), in collaboration with the African Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA) at the public presentation of the study in Abuja said that the research shows how tobacco companies strategically situate tobacco products and advertisements near primary and secondary schools with the aim of enticing kids to experiment smoking.
The research work titled- “Big Tobacco: Tiny Targets Nigeria Report” exposes widespread sale of tobacco products along paths of primary and secondary schools in five states where there was also deliberate display of tobacco products next to sweets and drinks, making them easily accessible, and sales of single tobacco sticks at very affordable rates, among other tactics of getting children to smoke and ultimately addicted.
Specific examples from Lagos, Nasarawa, Enugu, Kaduna and Oyo are documented in the report, including visual evidences.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, The report urges government to take action and made some specific recommendations including the need for urgent passage of the regulations guiding implementation of the National Tobacco Control (NTC) Act 2015 by the National Assembly; and Proactive prohibition of placement of tobacco products within 100m of any educational institution by the federal, state and local education authorities.
It demanded the enforcement of the comprehensive prohibition of Tobacco Advertising Promotion and Sponsorship (TAPS) and the setting up of a Framework for monitoring the implementation of the ban on single sticks and cigarettes packs with less than 20 sticks as detailed in the NTC Act 2015

In a country where a certain governor has prioritized the erection of statues over the payment of salaries, do you really expect mallam to use tape to measure 100m from a school before he set up his kiosk? Regulations like this are difficult to enforce in Nigeria.

This is reaching.

How can the tobacco corporations be liable for this? They didn’t ask the petty traders to display their cigarettes along with biscuits and sweets.

I think what we need is simply sensitisation of petty traders to refuse to sell tobacco products to minors.

I remember as a kid, I was at a kiosk to buy stuff and a child came to buy St Morris (or or is it moritz) from the same mallam. I assumed he was sent by his father cos that boy was only about 5 years old. Now that I think of it, nothing says the child couldn't have gone to smoke secretly.

Many of us were fascinated by the smell of tobacco as kids and we wanted to experiment. One could just go and buy from the mallam without question. It shouldn't be so.

The big corporations are not the ones retailing their products to minors.

The companies are not responsible for this. They sell to distributors who are closely monitored who then sell to retailers (who are too numerous and spread out wide to be monitored). It's these retailers and the bars that they sell to that are responsible for this. ........I just can't get why people hate large corporate organizations

How is Cigarette legal?
With its nicotine and tar and thousands of other harmful chemicals to the lungs?

And alkaline Cannabis which cures cancer, improves brain function and cognitive activities illegal?

Did you know the cannabis market is a controlled one not for you and I but just well for the elites?

Can a poor man own 20 hectares of cannabis farm?
Its soldiers that guard these places folks.

As at now hardly will you see park without a weed seller
Did you know they pay the goddamn police as well?

The textile gotten from cannabis is 7x stronger than cotton

Cannabis plant is among the shortest in terms of maturity, in less than 6 months you have a solid tree ready for paper and all
We could end deforestation by making it legal.

Did you know the American declaration was on hemp paper?

In the 17th century a pope declared smoking cannabis sacrilege

Thousands of years ago has it been used in Africa.

So what's wrong with us?

Holland,Washington, Colorado Portugal have stopped the war on this plant yet we Africans continue to remain backward?

If God is all knowing, and he created all for reasons why ban what God created for what reason?

Cannabis is a safe alternative from thousands of pharmaceuticals.
That's why it has to be made illegal
And cigarettes which states it kills is made legal.

We get so little from not using our brains and not being different

Non sense, do they put it in their mouth. When some parent fail to train their children in Godly way they will be blaming producers of cigarettes. Upon the warning of smokers and liable to die young what else do you want, whether adolescent or adults, smokers is smokers.
