The general belief about diabetes is that they are caused by the type of food we eat. Most people concentrate on the type of food, leaving other important causes of diabetes. Focus on food is good, but we should also focus on other factors like how and when we eat, what we drink, exercise and more.

1. Do you skip breakfast?

There are many statistics about why you do not have to skip breakfast, but a study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said that losing even one breakfast a week increases your risk of diabetes by 20%. It's all about maintaining healthy insulin levels. When you sleep, your insulin levels remain on a plateau, not extremely high or excessively low. However, if you strike breakfast, those insulin levels are dipped, just to nail again if you finally eat lunch. Such extreme changes in insulin can increase your risk of diabetes.

Even people who are less familiar with the disease know that consuming too much sugar can be a factor in getting diabetes. However, it's not so much sugar that makes sweet drinks and desserts such a problem, it's how much weight you experience. When a person is overweight, their bodies naturally experience chemical changes that affect the ability of their bodies to produce enough insulin. The more weight you get, the more insulin your body needs to control to control your glucose levels, but when it can not follow, your risk of diabetes is greatly increased.
