The Girl Child (A Poem by Babatunde Raimi)

I tried to tell you
But he promised me a trip
A journey of no return
Into the land of the spirits

He took my precious jewel
Saying he was making me a woman
I tried to fight back
But his desires trumped my weakness

He slides in and out
When you slide out and in
I tried to tell you
Each time he slides in and out
But you were too busy
Too busy to notice the thread is broken

Why do monsters live amongst men
Why do society feign ignorance
Why do they still live to tell the story
Maybe these are questions for the gods

Each time the monster approaches
Don't touch me there became my slogan
The more i sing, the more enthused he became
Don't tell no one, boldly he reiterates

By force is RAPE
With underage; worse than terrorism
The blood you forced will speak
Your generation yet unborn will share
It is a gift i freely give
A curse than cannot be lifted

But you should have known
You called me your Dearest
Your jewel invaluable
But you failed to educate me
Why i should let you know
When he said i shouldn't let you know
When he started touching me there
Promising a gift to a world beyond
