A review of the crime section of Nairaland shows an overwhelming majority of crimes are committed by men - armed robberies, one chance robberies, 419, etc. Proceeds of these crimes are spent on women in one way or the other or to impress women in relationship encounters.

Based on these statistics and global crime figures, some have suggested that the female child should receive more priority in child development(schools, programs, training, employnent) than male children. Are men truly beyond redemption from their toxic masculinities?

Also an increase in female leadership could make an impact.

Agree or disagree?

While I agree that women should have a higher number of representation in government and have more voice in decision making, your point that they should be prioritized is wrong.

In fighting partriachy, we should be careful not to raise another type of evil. Women should have equal choice and not favored. Give a level playing field and allow everyone be able to slug it out.

As for women in government, I think it is important as there are decisions that men might not get because life is a bubble and a lot of people see life from their own point, we miss some key issues; take sanitary pads for examples. There has been a campaign for it to be free or atleast subsidized for women as it is an essential health material.

How can we subside condoms when sex is optional but ignore sanitary pads when half the population face it monthly whether or not they like it (except when you take drugs to move it). There are things men just dont get about women because we are simply not women.

So yes, we need a feminist approach. More female representation, more female voices, paying more attention to their needs, complaints and create laws and do more to make their lives safer, better and easier

As for crime, beter laws on harrassments, laws on domestic violence, inheritance and rights.

Crime against women continue since because the people that they can get away with these crimes. I don type too much

If women commit less crime then they should lead men in that regard and teach them the way to less crime.

Nigeria's problem is a case of '' unintelligence''. Its only unintelligence that will make a man commit crime to please a woman. Again, it is unintelligence that is making many ladies think feminism is all about man hating and not being subject to corrections and instructions. Feminism in Africa is a dead cause on arrival. why? because on average what a young lady thinks of is getting married to one prince somewhere and not importantly impacting on her environment. so there is no will power for the education you mentioned! there is no will power to make impact. its not about going to school, its about getting educated. you can force a horse to the river but you cannot force it to drink water. I mentioned on some other thread. The whole idea of feminism in the western world didn't start today. It started decades ago. Their women contributed to the society with their works, by being independent, they were able to get into government and then made laws that favor them. for instance, the have the upper right in marriage- one man, one wife. Divorce favors them too. all of this was possible because the motivation and will power was there. To simplify my points. put these two sentences on google and see results.
1. Notable female scientist
2. Notable African female scientist.
you will find that the motivation to contribute meaningfully to the society has been there, this is lacking in both genders in Nigeria. Crime isnt about a ''cause''. Its about a people that need to get intelligent and change their approach to life

A Feminist Approach will not help matters. Just as the males have failed so will the females.

The females will fight for women rights, provide enabling environment for learning and co-habiting with others for the girl-child but as usual, the focus will be on the female gender alone. Just as my oga Mynd44 said, give them more places in government but do not favour them over the males.

I pray if one day this happens, the feminists will concentrate their efforts to the North East and other areas of Nigeria to stop female suicide bombing, domestic violence meted out to males, kidnapping e.t.c. Anyone that says Women are not as criminal as men,i will say:
Cobwebs are gathering in your brain embarassed

Fairness should be encouraged among gender in the country but given women full control in power would not be different from what the crook men in power are currently doing and it would become worse as their over bloated ego will ruin many marriages.

Feminism as the OP projected it is bias against the male gender..she said 'FOCUS MORE on the FEMALE child'..

To me,everything is already against the male in favour of the female.
we pay bride price,
we pay child(ren) school fees,
pay for the feeding of the family,
we pay for stuffs when on date,
we must not lay hand on woman no matter what she does,if not,we will be tagged an 'animal'...etc
If y'all truly want gender equality, start by spliting responsibility of the above..
If it comes to hard work or shouldering life responsiblities, you are expected to be a MAN,but when it comes to enjoyment or things like sharing money, they start singing their 'Ladies first' phrase
Hypocrites!!

If y'all wants to be in Government and lead, why dont y'all start by campaigning and ACTUALLY contest in an election..cos no one will give you a leadership post on a platter just cos you are female.

Am sick of all this feminist propaganda. If any man treats you like a slave, free yourself from his shackles. If you want to be heard then stand out, men will be men so will women be women. Those stories you read in the crime section, did you not also see that of a woman indulge in violence? Though not as high compared to their male counterpart. That should tell you a lot. As for more women in power, that's a totally wrong perspective of seeing things. Why not better people(male or female) in power. If they diligently do their job then who cares if it's a male or female.

Canada Adopts Feminist International Funding Policy - 90% of Funds to go to women and girls by 2022

According to Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s foreign minister, this new policy was developed after consultations with 15,000 people from 60 countries. In operation, it will refocus billions of Canadian aid dollars toward “advancing gender equality” and “the empowerment of women and girls”. In terms of scale and percentage, the change is tremendous. Canada has, in the years since 2010, spent only 1-2% of its international assistance funds on women. With the adoption of this new policy that number will increase to 90% by 2022.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/aug/07/canada-international-aid-feminist-women-afghanistan

Before people start crying foul, check the crime statistics - of what use is it funding potential robbers and criminals? Of what use is it funding starters of world wars?

Discuss.

No?

Go through your points again carefully. You have noted that the proceeds of the male crime are spent on women. If women are the ultimate beneficiaries of crime, it means they are the cause and instigators of the so called male crime.

You should be calling for a re education of the men folk to stop slaving for the the women. Let them work for their living. Nature has blessed them with too many powers already, forcefully giving them extra powers in official government is uncalled for and will amount to killing off the men who are already enslaved enough, and that will create an imbalance in society. Women are already exercising all the power they want in government from 'za oza room'. They dont want or need official power to influence society. The situation now is that men may be ruling but women rule those men.

Yes to TRUE feminism. Men and women should work equally for their living. Men should be reeducated the ways girls are educated to curb their libido, and women reeducated to stop the sexual exploitation of men.
