In the 1970s, Nigeria, India, Singapore and Malaysia where countries ranked as emerging economies to look out for. This countries were tagged as economies that would rule the world in the next 30 years to come.
Fast-forward over 30 years’ time, 2017, Nigeria hasn’t made any tangible progress. The other 3 countries have left us behind in virtually every good thing. The only thing we are better is corruption.
An international organisation, ‘Spectator Index’ ran an analysis on Nigeria and some other countries, below is the result comparing with Singapore.

It is indeed sad..I don't know if this country is cursed, despite the great number of churches and mosques in every nooks and crannies we are still deteriorating. The two major things killing the country is Religion and ethnicity, I wish the country can be divided in these regards. Either in two(Christian and Muslim) or in three(Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba).

This ought to be a lesson to all those who think Nigeria is "rich" because it has natural resources. To all these people, I ask, what resources does Singapore have other than the skills and knowledge of its people?

Nigeria's "blessing" of oil has always been nothing more than a curse other than to a small elite who have the chance to steal massively from the funds handed over after companies like Shell and BP did the actual work of extracting the petroleum that was lying there in the ground for centuries, with the Africans who lived on top of it never even being aware of its existence. The allure of instant wealth from "chopping" some of the "national cake" has completely blinded most Nigerians from understanding that true, lasting wealth is something to be created, not something you "luck" into by winning an inflated contract, embezzling federal allocations or collecting bribes.

Here we are nearly 6 decades after independence, still chasing after our share of the same static "national cake", even as brand new companies like Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google have emerged from garages and dorm rooms to earn more per quarter than Nigeria's 2 million barrels earns in a year. Who knows how many such companies might have been born from Nigerian minds if the country's entire setup didn't revolve so completely around seeking after oil rents? Even now, as many young Nigerians are heavily investing their energies into tech startups and the like, our worthless political elite sets them up for failure at every turn, through stupid policies like Buhari's "strong" Naira, or simply doing nothing to secure the rights of way for telecoms firms seeking to roll out fibre-optic broadband.

The sad thing is that none of the people mentioned in the running for power have a clue about how badly Nigeria has gone off the rails, and those who do have no chance of getting elected, because all Nigerians care about is having "our pikin" in Aso Rock, as if that has ever helped the masses in any part of the country! By all means, keep talking about which "zone" has what "turn" in 2019 or 2023, and continue to ignore ideologies and policy platforms, and see if Nigeria doesn't continue falling further and further behind even those countries it used to laugh at during the height of the "oil boom" 1970s.

Hypocrisy is when you post this here and in 2019 you go vote in a visionless politician. Nigeria's failure is a team effort. We all have a hand in it one way or the other.

The countries that formed the Asian tigers - South korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore as at the 50's were Asian curbs compared to thier neighbour Japan who as at that time was already developed .

These countries have litthe or no natural resources and they decided to focus more on human capital development but what is the case today, Singapore have one of the largest port hub if not the largest in the world, the likes of Hong Kong have one of the best financial market in the world to name but a few.

The KEY to the growth and development of this sub Sahara Africa country called Nigeria is not the development of physical capital or natural resources but lies in the development of human capital.

Human capital development will go along way in bring tremendous growth and development both in physical capital as well as natural endowments.

That's the KEY...until we realize this as a nation we will continue to remain in the dark ...

All we see today is human capital flight (Brain drain), Brain drain has become the order of the day, the little best hands we have here are running away to developed nations of the world because of favourable conditions .

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Nigeria missed it when it abandoned the system of national development planning. Instead budgets are made haphazardly and without proper linkages in the system

Above all. Nigeria has not had a visionary leader at the federal level since 1960

India - 1947

Malaysia - 1957

Nigeria - 1960

Botswana - 1966 ( an African country with blacks just like nigeria that was also colonized by Britain )

Lol they have zoned the presidential slot to North... Lol so it's between an old theif and old coup plotist.. Of course we must chose from one of them... 2023 if igbos are given chance, it will be between Rochas and Amaechi.... Lol...

See wetin one Nigeria has caused , we have lowered all our standards just because we don't want other tribes to be aggrieved, or we want to take our share of governance....

The mumu thing will fall from una eyes 2050 when it's time for an hausa man turn again. Lol and off course boko hostilities get new blood after 2019 or 2023 while militancy will be revived after 2019 or 2023 or 2030, lol am sure someone would point to my post one day...

If Buhari didnt join the Army Nigeria would have been at par or near par with Singapore today ..Buhari has been the core problem with the Nigerian project from the day he koined the Army , he was amongst the troops who siezed and killed President Aguiyi Ironsi , he will also go on to join putchist that ousted Gowon , then the worst was the unnecessary removal of Shagari bu the evil man

This is one of the reasons I stopped voting in this country since 2003.

Now what happened in late 2013 to 2015 is reoccurring, the way people thought PMB is the Messiah now they have started singing Messiah song for Atiku.
