Lagos’ll Soon Be Third Largest Africa’s Economy by Babatundepet: 6:59am On Dec 01, 2017
The Lagos State Government says the state is targeting being the third largest economy in Africa.

The state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at a workshop on Thursday, added that the target was the reason his administration embarked on capacity building training for the state public servants.

Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr Benson Oke, described the workshop organised by the state’s Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions as a strategic move to prepare public servants for the challenges of being one of the most prosperous economies in Africa.

He said, “We are presently the fifth largest economy in Africa; we are determined to move from the fifth to the third largest economy in Africa.

“What this means is that we want to replicate most of the things obtainable in the United Kingdom, Soviet Union and other developed countries of the world in Lagos with little adjustment because of the difference of the social settings.”

Ambode said experience had shown that training increased productivity and helped to maximise the capacities of people in organisations such as the Lagos State Public Service.

He said apart from the benefits that the state stood to gain, he expected the civil servants to also benefit by becoming effective leaders and making better decisions in their works.

They always claim to be the developers of lagos but their region is in shambles.

It goes beyond just having the tag of "largest economy". It needs to reflect on the lives of the citizens. Good roads, 24-7 electricity, jobs, security. Lagos doesn't tick all these boxes yet, but the potentials are there

If you consider the huge ongoing projects especially Eko Atlantic, the rail project and Dangote refinery.

Another major problem is population and the state seem clueless on how to solve that problem. It's pointless putting down infrastructure that would get weakened within a short period of time due to pressure. The same yammerheads who won't stay in their potopoto were the ones who kicked against Lagos special status bill

Anyway, Eko Onibaje

Ambode said Lagos would attain 24/7 electricity supply by 2018 via consatructing private power station. If this can be achieved coupled with good roads and completion of several projects like Eko Atlantic city ( Victoria Island), Industrial park/port/amusement centre ( Oworon Soki), Lekki sea port, Smart city and Mono rail, then Lagos can fare to 3rd position in Africa economy standings because these projects would attract investors and tourists.

Ambode should hit the ground running in the aspect of environment sanity in Lagos. This aspect needs an urgent call.

Also, the state is too congested. As harsh as it sounds, unproductive people should be deported

Yup! Too many folks currently constituting a nuisance in Lagos are better off in their villages farming, riding Okada or hawking their gala in peace. The state seriously needs decongesting, as in desperately sef. Make dem go 'develop' their states.

Guy, your state governor is promising you 250k to encourage you guys to quit hawking gala and getting repeatedly arrested by Lagos KAI officials. Why not take advantage of the offer and relocate to your village to start a new and more dignified life. Your state needs more 'developing' than Lagos, ok?

Hello, he was not finance commissioner, but commissioner for budget and economic planning. Besides, why are you grinning over that? Fashola appointed your brother to a position and you are grinning?? See your life?

He's no longer in that position and Lagos is performing better fiscally than while he was in that position, so again I ask why you are grinning?

Our government officials just love figures and d.ick measuring contests.
Nigeria with largest GDP can't boast of 24/7 power, good roads, reducing poverty rate, food security, adequate health care, sound education etc but small Seychelles and Mauritius with their modest GDP and population already have it even small Ghana sef has some of this.
Lagos if you like you can have the largest GDP in the world but what Lagosians want to see are things I listed above.

You must be mad. How many Yorubas do you hear of renting from an igbo landlord in Lagos? It is your people that complain about Yoruba people refusing to rent to dem in Lagoz, not the other way round. Gtfoh.
There are many Igbo landlords in Lagos na.
And Yoruba tenants struggle to pay rent to these Igbo landlords, hence the perpetual Igbo hating grin grin grin

And where is he today?
A Yoruba man gave him appointment out of goodwill but sadly most of you brag with it. There are over a million Yorubas that would have done the job well in place of Akabueze.

Guess what? There's no single Igbo in Lagos cabinet under Ambode.
That should open your eyes that it's over. Yorubas have made it clear outsiders can't take positions meant for Yorubas again.

Your state can receive and accommodate the deportees the same way it did when BRF deported them the other time, I don't give a flipping fvck.
