Police nab female varsity student over alleged robbery

A CRACK team of policemen in Imo State has arrested two students of Evan Enwerem University, Owerri over armed robbery incidents around the school axis.





The students, including a female, were paraded alongside an alleged kidnapper and two other robbery suspects at the headquarters of the command in Owerri yesterday.

The paraded suspects include Miss. Monica Emedike, a 200-Level student in the university's Department of English and Kelechi Ijewuike, a 300-Level student of Industrial Chemistry in the same institution as well as their accomplice, Kelechi Enwunihi.

According to the state Police Commissioner, Aloysius Okorie, pistols were recovered from them.

Okorie also said that Miss. Emedike allegedly kept shotguns for bandits.

He disclosed that the suspects were residents of Emex Hostel, near the university, adding that many students and others living in the area had fallen victims to the alleged robbers.

The suspected kidnapper, Christian Nwachukwu, who resides in Jos, Plateau State, allegedly abducted little Okechukwu Okoye from Zakibiam in Benue State to Amuzi, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Council in Imo State and demanded a ransom of N10 million from the lad's father.

Nwachukwu was arrested while trying to collect the N1 million ransome he later agreed to collect for the safe return of his victim.

An alleged robbery gang leader, Eze Nwosu, who was also paraded, was according to Okorie, arrested in Umuduru, Isiala Mbano Local Council of the state after a gun duel with the police.

The police commissioner reiterated the Command's resolve to make the state uncomfortable for hoodlums.
