Exposed - Ahmadu Bello University Zaria's website contains malicious code by Nicur: 8:42am On Dec 09, 2017
An information security researcher who uses the twitter handle @elchukkie have discovered that the portal for post utme of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria contains some malicious codes that compromises the visitors device. This malicious code is a JavaScript which is a crypto currency miner, this code uses your laptop or mobile device to mine cryptocurrency when you visit the site. It does this by embedding the code in your browser and uses your cpu to mine for crypto currencies . This will put more work on your device, it will make it to heat up and hang.
The webpage that does this is putme.abu.edu.ng. this is unethical and unprofessional!! It's a shame that our prestigious university is involved in this act, I call on well meaning Nigerians to call Abu Zaria to order!!

Oga researcher goan sidon jooooooor. The site was built by an overzealous web designer who has hidden stuff behind it. You think the ABU administration knows what Bitcoin mining is? Stop thinking it was sanctioned by the School and instead advice them on how to avoid such.

smh some people sef this why politicians will keep on milking us dry in this country, while we let sentiments get the better of us and defend them when they are exposed ! The researcher just did his job instead of doing condemning the fraudulent activity it is the researcher that is your problem, good morning!!! angry

What I'm saying is, the institution authority may not know what is going behind the scene but the researcher is making it look like it is the VC or whoever gave the green light for the portal to be used for Bitcoin mining. I'm a security specialist myself and it is unethical for a hacker or whoever to go on air with a bug without first informing the owner and they agree to air it. Good morning to you too.

If I may ask, after closing the tab used in visiting the site, will my browser be free from the cryptojacking? Because I noticed the chrome browser on my office pc and laptop now hangs frequently since day before yesterday I used it to visit the site to check for admission

oh that's left for the institution or VC to clear the air and bring the culprit to book, imagine that you have a company, who is your staff acting on behalf of ? Is it not your company? It is now left for your company to disassociate itself from the act !! But whatever it is this fraudulent activity act needs to stop !!! Let's face the message leave the messenger dearie.

well I don't really know, I will have to ask the researcher but I think you should clear your browsing cache memory and history, that will remove anything in the browser you got from visiting websites
