SCORENigeria can specially report that Turkey-based Ogenyi Onazi was the second Super Eagles player FIFA warned was ineligible for the Algeria match in November after he was also booked twice previously in the qualifiers.

Thankfully, injury stopped Onazi from being part of the match in Algeria.

An official told SCORENigeria: “Shehu Abdullahi and Ogenyi Onazi were the two players FIFA warned were ineligible for the Algeria match a month to the game.

“But while the Eagles went on to play Shehu in the match, Onazi could not feature because he was injured.”

FIFA have since awarded the match in favour of Algeria and fined Nigeria.

However, this ruling did not affect Nigeria’s qualification to Russia 2018 as they still finished with 13 points from six matches as Zambia were a distant second on eight points.
