‘I wish I could play for Nigeria’ – Fatau Dauda Ghana black stars keeper

Despite playing for the Black Stars of Ghana at the AFCON and also at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda cannot hide his admiration for rival country Nigeria.

The Enyimba FC shot stopper will swiftly grasp any opportunity to play for the Super Eagles in the event that FIFA rules will allow him.

Dauda who has been in top form for The Peoples Elephants, guiding them to qualify for the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup, has been ignored by new Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah since assuming post in May this year.

Asked whether he would love to represent the Super Eagles following the continuous snub by Ghana, Dauda laughed and said, “Why not?

“Nigerians are passionate about football. They love football like we Ghanaians and you know that rivalry will be there forever,” he told completesportsnigeria.

Dauda reveals that if FIFA is to change the rule of playing for a national team and that can give him a chance, he will play for Nigeria.

“If FIFA changes their law today and I have the chance to play for Nigeria I will gladly do that. I won’t think twice before accepting the offer. There are a lot of talented players in the Super Eagles and it will be great to be part of a great team.

Dauda is, however, not worried by the continuous snub by Coach Kwasi Appiah, saying he will respond anytime Ghana needs him.

“For me, the most important thing now is to continue to do well for my club. It is when you do well for your club that you will possibly be recognised by your country. The media and the federation in Ghana are monitoring my performance here and if the coaches deem it fit they will invite me.

I know you will be better than that little boy called Ezinwa, I think we should call Eyeama back for this last one, World Cup is not Afcon, when some players see the opportunity they don’t mind to win golden boot even with only one match played.

To be honest, super Eagles is a great team but they still need a lot of WORK to perfect their skills and abilities. This Ghanaian dude obviously sees the potential in the Nigerian team. Nigeria for life!!!

I concur. His performance in the AFCON 2013 quarter final against Cape Verde was simply outstanding. Even Ruud Gullit who was doing punditry work for Super Sport could not hide his admiration.
