The issuance of the debut FGN Green Bond worth N10.69 billion has commenced. The exercise kicked off on Monday, December 18, 2017 and will end on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

According to information released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) yesterday on the exercise, the 5-year FGN Green Bond due in 2022 is offered at 13.48 percent.

Proceeds from the sale will be used solely for Green projects in the 2017 Appropriation Act already identified and certified.

The debt office, which is supervising the exercise on behalf of the Nigerian government, explained that investors can subscribe for the bonds for N1,000 per unit subject to a minimum subscription of N10 million and in multiples of N1 million thereafter.

The FGN Green Bond is backed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government of Nigeria and would be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange and can also be classified as Liquid Asset by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This people are funny for real.. I am so sure this fund is going to the development of Northern part of Nigeria as the policy of the fund mandates or where else in Nigeria needs afforestation or alternative renewable energy?
Another unfortunate thing about this fund is that the purpose for which it is raised for will be jeopardized and it won't be able to pay back the bond and it's accrued interests by itself but instead will be paid with proceed of crude oil by future administration. This regime has plunged the nation into enough debts that will take grace of Almighty to pay in the next 50years. We are still grappling with the modalities of Sukuk bond and now they come up with this..,why cant they encourage private investors in these areas and formulate stable policies to ensure the smooth running of the operation, before you know it now, one mallam will claim they plant dongoyaro tree for 12billion Naira.na wa oo

Honestly...for a 5 year bond with a minimum subscription of 10 million. Are the projects they intend to execute with the funds self-liquidating? I don't think the risk involved commiserates with the returns being offered except there are other perks not captured above. I'll rather opt for the FGN Savings bond. Seems this is for corporates that are willing to buy into the Green revolution.

Abeg, make someone explain to me

Bonds, Treasury bills, open market operations (OMO) nd d rest are means which d FGN uses to control money(monetary control nd policies)in d country

How do they control dis cash?
FG needs cash to carry out its capital projects... D money to b used for dis capital projects comes from internally/externally generated revenue, international/local loans received(FG borrowing) and minting nd printing press(money printing). But if FG wishes to print all cash needed for its capital projects, Nigeria will run into Inflation... So d best way to avoid dat is to borrow money from d public/country nd pay back later with interest.... This is where bonds, Treasury bills, OMO and d rest comes to play.
Bond's, Treasury bills, OMO simply means different ways of lending money to d FG.....

So on this thread, FGN is trying to borrow N10.6b from the public with an interest of 13.48%. But the minimum amount an individual can lend d FG is N10m

I hope I tried a little
