South East Joint Tax Board New TIN Registration System And Consolidated National Taxpayers' Database, Flagged Off in Awka.

By Emmanuel Okonkwo

The South East Joint Tax Board new Taxpayer Identification Number Registration System and Consolidated National Taxpayers' Database has been inaugurated in Anambra with a call on all to always adhere to taxation law.

The new Joint Tax Board National TIN Registration System is a robust application developed to assign Taxpayer Identification Number, TIN, to all potential corporate and individual taxpayers that have been uniquely identified and registered by identity management agencies such as Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System, NIBSS.

In his speech, the Chairman Joint Tax Board, Mr. Tunde Fowler explained that the objective of the new JTB TIN system is to integrate with relevant agencies and leverage on already captured data, deploy analytics to discover hidden and correlating trends and patterns that could lead to better visibility and increased Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for all tiers of government, and as well reduce the burden of manual data sorting.

Mr. Fowler said that the new TIN Registration system of the JTB is also aimed at making tax payment easier for taxpayers across Nigeria, and called on South East geopolitical zone to key into the initiative in order to help in enhancing the revenue and development of the country.

Contributing, the Executive Secretary, Joint Tax Board, Mr. Oseni Elamah disclosed that the system brings innovation, convenience and transparency to tax authorities and taxpayers by enabling tax authorities efficiently manage their Taxpayer base, while enabling taxpayers to visualize, retrieve and update their tax status at the comfort of their homes.

In a remark, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke who described the new system of tax payment as a welcome development, said that Anambra state had already initiated a similar measure which is the Anambra Social Service Identification Number, ANSSID, to ensure full compliance of the state residents to tax payment.

This is NOT a good idea !

The Buhari federal Government will use this information to tax individuals and the little private companies managing to stay afloat in the Southeast to death! Why have they not implemented such for Kano and Kaduna?

Our people are yet to understand the deceit tactics being used against them. The same warning i issued in the Enugu thread when they were clamoring on the so called "deficiencies" at the Akanu Ibiam Intl. airport that they wanted to close the airport briefly and fix it. I said then that it was a tactics to find a reason to close down the airport, divert traffic away from it and they will simply "forget" the issues they said they will fix. The airport will remain indefinitely closed for so long and when it finally open, it may never get it's international airline and traffic back.

We should learn & understand the tactics of the enemy and not being so gullible that they will help us fix anything in our region.

Not exactly correct. The implementation is being done regionally. In this case Anambra is hosting the one of the southeast. It is a national tax implementation framework. It is not peculiar to just one region. If you noticed from the report, it was the DG of FIRS that came from Abuja to flag of the one of the southeast off in Awka. He will proceed to other regions from here.

Just like they wanted to do operation python dance 4 in the southeast and when Ohaneze protested publicly that the region was peaceful and didn't need further military deployments, they suddenly switched to saying they will deploy nationally and start operations in every region. However, everyone knows they are only eager to do python dance in the southeast and crocodile smile in the southsouth.

For electricity allocation in Nigeria, southeast gets the tiniest allocation, but pays more than double what other DISCOS pay to FG for electricity.

Ofcourse, the tax will be "implemented nationally", but we already know who the focus of taxation is in Nigeria. However, when it comes to sharing revenue, the same people that pay the highest taxes will get the tiniest share.

Awka Millennium City’ll trigger discrimination’

8th November 2019

Experts in the built environment have criticized the development of Awka Millennium City being championed by Obiano administration, saying such projects discriminate between the poor and the rich in the society.

According to one of the experts, Chukwukelu Odawulu, such development is in bad fate because government will, in order to get the support of the affluence in the state, develop facilities in the city exceptionally compared to what obtains in other locations in the state.

According to him, “government should provide social amenities to everybody in the state without minding their status as long as government is for all. What should be done is to map out a portion of land in some parts of the state and put it for sell. In this regards, those who can buy into the area will be able to support the kind of infrastructure required by those in the area.

Another respondent, Mrs. Ngozi Ukachu, said that government should deploy the resources in the development of the entire state.

She said: “The roads in the state are being washed away by erosion and/or flood. Yet, instead of fixing them, government is talking of carving special area for the rich that can care for themselves. Let the roads be fixed, then we can get to where ever we do our business without much problems”.

However, Mr. Clem Nwogbo, Group Chairman of M-P Infrastructure in the state, said such development is not out of place because it is not by force. He said anybody who is willing and capable of meeting the financial requirements of being there can go there and register.

According to him, “capital is like a living organism; it goes and stays where it will thrive the most. For us at M-P Infrastructure Ltd, investing in the South East of Nigeria, Anambra, in particular, was a question of time. We were always aware of the economic potential of the South East dating back to the era of late Michael Okpara, former Premier of the Eastern Region of Nigeria, and then the Jim Nwobodo era as Governor of Anambra State and up till the present time of Governor Willie Obiano.

“Recall that Nigeria’s industrial revolution also took place in the South East. Companies such as Eastern Nigeria Development Company (ENDC), Golden Guinea Breweries Ltd, Modern Ceramics, Nkalagu Cement, Premier Breweries, and so on, were all thriving southeast Nigeria-based firms.

“We were never in doubt of the huge economic potential that abound in the region. The demographics of the teeming population, there, rising purchasing power, the increase in the number of educated members of the population, etc.

As the population grew, and the people got more sophisticated and enlightened, their needs and tastes will increase too so already we could see the gaps in the market for various products and services

Nigerian Business Mogul Cosmas Maduka Launches $35 Million Rice Mill In Anambra State

Nigerian business mogul Cosmas Maduka, one of Nigeria’s most successful businessmen, has built a rice processing mill in Anambra, a state in Nigeria’s southeastern region, at a reported cost of $35 million.

According to a report by ThisDay, the rice mill which was constructed by Coscharis Farms, a subsidiary of the Cosharis Group which Maduka controls, was officially launched last Tuesday at a ceremony in Anambra attended by Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele and various Nigerian state governors.

The first phase of the rice mill which has a milling capacity of 40,000 MT per annum was launched on Tuesday, but the entire project is expected to have an annual milling capacity of 120,000 MT when completed by the end of 2020 according to a press statement by Maduka.

Coscharis Farms Limited, a subsidiary of Coscharis Group, is an integrated rice processor that started operations in 2014 to meet part of the estimated 5.9 million MT annual rice demand in Nigeria. Coscharis Farms currently has close to 3,000 hectares of land for rice cultivation in Anambra and an irrigation system on its farm to enable multi‐cycle rice cultivation. Coscharis Farms has a robust farmer out‐grower development programme within Anambra State, and its environs that aims to reach thousands of farmers that could provide rice paddy to its mill when completed.

“We want to process paddy harvested from our farm into best quality rice. We want to contribute significantly to the government’s efforts to ensure food sufficiency through local production of rice. In addition, we want to set the pace for production of best quality local rice that will cause our people to change their preference from imported rice to locally milled rice which is known to be rich with important nutrients,” Maduka said at the launch of the rice mill.

Nigerians consume more than 5 million metric tons of rice every year, with a significant portion of its consumption needs sourced from imports.

Cosmas Maduka, 60, is the founder of Coscharis Group, one of Nigeria’s largest privately-owned conglomerates with businesses and interests that span across various sectors of the Nigerian economy: car dealerships, foods & beverages, engineering and agriculture.

LCCI president lauds Obiano’s investment stride

President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Babatunde Ruwase, has applauded Anambra Governor, Chief Willie Obiano for his efforts at making the state a better investment destination and one of most preferred locations in Nigeria, to site new industries.

Ruwase, who made the remark during Anambra special day presentation at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, added that Governor Obiano’s administration had increased the commercial production of rice and other farm produces.

“We believe that the newly established Coschàris Farm Rice Processing Mill will further boost domestic rice production and enhance food sufficiency in the state and Nigeria at large.”

He said a statement by the state government revealed that the mill adds 5% to food production in the state and has created 3, 000 jobs to engage youths across the value chain of rice production.

State Director of Commerce, Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Henrietta Basil -Ideh, who said it was not the first time Anambra was coming for the fair, added that the safety of the state, which was made possible by Governor Obiano, has created a lasting business environment to attract investments.

She said the 2019 trade fair, supported by the governor has provided a veritable platform for the state and investors to showcase their products and services.

A tour of the state’s pavilion at the fair, showed variety of products, which she said were made in Anambra State, ranging from rice, bean flour, soya beans flour, traditional wear, bags, shoes, among others.

Don't blame those blockheads.

I watched a video where Lagos State government was destroying houses yesterday and one Idiot was saying in a video Igbos houses been destroyed.

They will come to whip sentiments but I blasted all of them. How many have they built in their fathers compound..none but have sky scrappers all round.

Their misfortune never start...is still doing press up.
