When this airport is finally done the kind of traffic it will receive will make some of our friends to close shops. I am just being honest. I will definitely be flying straight to Anambra on Air Peace

Delta government said the same about Asaba airport and patronage is far lower than was expected. Also be praying the airport is not abandoned by Obiano's successor. I'm curious to know how much has been appropriated for it and what stage of completion it would be at when his tenure is over. If Obiano had real vision and wanted to make a statement with a seriously impactful capital project, he could have built gas pipelines to link to Anambra industrial clusters which lack gas and critical infrastructure. Or a built a state power plant. Or invested the serious money in the channeling and drainages that could turn around Anambra's struggles against erosion. Instead, it looks like he chose what amounts to a vanity project: an airport. In a state surrounded on all sides by airports.

Always spewing rubbish. So all those things you mentioned are more important than the airport. You claimed to know so much but you are still miserable, you can't even lead your wife and children but you wanna advise a whole state government. Anambra needs the airport and we are getting it done, and very soon jets shall be landing there.

This is heartwarming. They are even working night and day to make sure they deliver the international airport project on schedule. Obiano is determined to see planes landing there long before he leaves office. This is one of the most important projects that Anambra needs right now and it is getting done. Congratulations to Ndi Anambra.

I like the fact that they are working 24/7. Very soon the airport shall be ready. Anyone that the project is paining should go and die somewhere . cool

. A gas pipeline costs 3 million usd per km so roughly 300m to link Anambra with the Shell gas pipeline in Imo state. Not cheap. The OB3 pipeline is a federal project not Nestoil and there is no assurance it will have sufficient gas. Seplat, Nestoil would better leverage their wealth and connections spearheading a gas project linking Imo, Asaba, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka and Enugu with involvement of federal government, state government and IOCs. It would cost at least 500m but with more shareholders could be funded more easily.

Anambra could in the meantimr try a different tactic which is leasing idle power from TCN and routing it directly to an industrial cluster and buying power directly or building a HV dedicated transmission line which is cheaper than a gas pipeline.

They also need to be more innovative. Government buildings and public schools should go all in on solar since they operate during the day and do not have much needs outside of computer work, some lights and fans.

I can remember typing that OB3 is a private gas pipeline

Read from Nnewi business submit early this year

At a panel session during the Summit, Ilozue took on Dr. Chukwueloka Umeh of Century Power Generation Company, which he accused of giving unrealistic conditions to Nnewi manufacturers who approached it for energy solutions. Umeh, on his part, explained that his company is equally grappling with the systemic constraints that have increased production costs for the manufacturers. Century Power has seen commercial prospects in the Nnewi hub and is willing to provide a sustainable energy solution to help the businesses reduce their costs said to be 40 percent energy-related.
Yet, Umeh said his company cannot bet its resources without a guarantee that the operators will take-up power when produced. The industrialists have given their words that they will buy the energy as long as it is cheaper than generators. But the devil is in getting the manufacturers to give the energy company a bankable guarantee as mere words cannot be taken to the banks. Umeh and his team have been in the business of power generation long enough to know how easy it is to lose investment made only based on mere statistics.
The Century Power boss is among those who believe that Nnewi is a miracle waiting to happen. That miracle, however, is being delayed by high energy cost, which he put at N90 per kilowatt. In the face of the current erratic or non-existent public energy, the private sector operators are ready to step in. But their involvement is also being stalled by the inability of the service providers and the consumers to agree on a workable payment structure.

Half of the Assa North/Ohaji South gas processing plant is owned by the Nigerian Government. The gas will be piped westwards from Egbema (outside Owerri) under the River Niger via OB3 pipeline to connect to the ELPS (Escravos-Lagos) pipeline system to feed power plants and industries in South Western Nigeria. About the OB3 pipeline, here is more about the project:

Obiafu-Obrikom to Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project

The pipeline system is a critical component of the Nigeria Gas Master Plan meant to deliver gas from the rich reservoirs in the eastern Niger Delta to the established markets in the west of Nigeria.

It also aims to meet the Nigeria gas demand for power generation and industrial concerns (methanol, cement, manufacturing etc.) with emphasis on operational safety, efficiency and flexibility with a view to providing industry standard, remote supervision and control.

The facility, under construction since 2013 starts from the Intermediate Pigging station at Umukwata (around KP 63.45) in Delta State and terminates at Oben Node in Edo State. The project involves construction of 48” x 127km, Class 600 trunk gas supply pipeline from and Gas Processing and Pressure Reduction Facilities with capacity of 2Bscf/d. On completion, it will enable the first major outline of a national gas grid.

OB3 is being constructed by the federal government's NGC not by private investors. It is a critical pipeline that will transmit gas from Eastern oil fields like Egbema to Lagos and the FGs AKK project to link Kaduna and Kano.

https://ibekachikwu.com/nigerias-ajaokuta-kaduna-kano-gas-pipeline-to-transport-2-2-billion-cubic-feet-of-gas-daily/

About Century Power they have been talking for a long time without putting one naira down. The cold reality about Anambra is that the dearth of LARGE industries (as I mentioned before) is why it is VERY HARD to find off-takers to justify building the pipeline. That is why it makes much more sense to push for a REGIONAL gas pipeline that will connect several urban areas such as Onitsha, Nnewi,Awka and Enugu. Those four together could provide sufficient demand to justify the pipeline.

I cringe inwardly anytime I see buildings like this especially in the East.

How can you build a structure, but just the roof takes almost 70% of it?

What is stopping us from improving on the designs of our buildings to modernized ones?

Century Power Generation seeks $600m from banks to build 1,500MW power plant in Anambra

May 20, 2019
A consortium of foreign lenders is ready to invest $600 million in the construction of a 1,500 megawatts (Mw) power plant in Okija, Anambra State, the Chief Executive Officer, Century Power Generation Limited, Dr Chukwueloka Umeh, has said.

The banks are to provide the funds, once the firm is ready with the predocumentation required for the construction of the plant.

Umeh, who spoke on the phone in Lagos, said local lenders had agreed to be part of the deal. He, however, refused to mention the names of the banks.

Century Power Generation is the utility arm of Nestoil Group, a conglomerate with interest in power generation and provision of gas pipelines, among others.

Umeh said: “A consortium of international banks, in conjunction with some Nigerian banks, has agreed to provide the funding, which is between $600 million and $650million in 2020. Bigger banks in Nigeria are also going to provide funds.

“The fund required for the Okija power plant is similar to the ones provided for the Azura Power Plant in Edo State. The size of the plant is huge, as it would assist in providing electricity for millions of people in the Eastern part of the country.”

According to him, financial institutions expected Nestoil Group or its subsidiary, Century Power Generation Limited to submit documents, such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), that are necessary for the construction of the project.

“We have been on the issue for some time. We are working to provide the documents for the release of the funds in 2020. By this, we are wrapping up the process of providing the power plant soon. Already, the company has resolved issues on the allocation of the land for the plant. What needs to be done is movement of machinery to the site of the plant, immediately the funds are ready,” he said.

In 2013, the Federal Government opened the window for private participation in the power sector through privatisation of the sector.

You don't know half of what you are talking about. First you said it was a private project and then erroneously said Nestoil has connected a pipeline from OB3. FOR YOUR INFORMATION OB3 is a FEDERAL project whose major customers are in Lagos, the power plants in Ogun and Abuja and Kaduna that AKK is supposed to supply. Nestoil to date FAILED to lay the section under the River Niger (it was re-awarded earlier this year to Chinese giant CPPC).

Again, if you don't know ask. If the Anambrarians that run Nestoil and Seplat are unwilling to build a pipeline to Anambra what does that tell you? It is an expensive venture that needs government funding. Like I said earlier its unfortunate that the Eastern governors and entrepreneurs tend to go it alone instead of fighting for interests of our people.

Energy is power. Transport is Power. Until our Igbo governors and senators understand the importance of GROUP INTEREST ADVOCACY the East will remain in darkness and with rubbish infrastructure. GROUP INTEREST is advocating that all major cities in the EAST are interconnected with proper federally funded highways, railroads and electricity infrastructure to draw a LARGE number of investors.

Only idiotic and ignorant people like you read press reports and reach silly conclusions. Century Power has been talking about their Okija power plant for the last 8 years and not gotten funding. Maybe Nestoil would be more successful getting funding for a smaller embedded thermal power plant serving ONITSHA not Okija. A 100MW power plant instead of an unfeasible 1.500MW power plant in Okija.

Completion date of OB3 gas pipeline project in Nigeria pushed to 2021

Completion works of Obiafu-Obrikom to Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project in Nigeria has been pushed further again to 2021. This is because a crucial part of the construction that has been taken from one of the key contractors and handed over to others, who now have a global pandemic to deal with.

Nestoil’s inability to run a 48 inch pipeline in a 60 inch hole under a riverbed spanning 2.8 kilometres, compelled the Nigerian Gas Transmission Company NGTC, the state firm sponsoring the project to hand over that aspect of the operations to China Petroleum Pipeline Construction Company (CPPCC) and Brentex Petroleum Services, which is primarily a manufacturer of pipes.

The CPP has since imported equipment for the job, but the material had been held up in the Lagos Port for over three weeks, with Port officials unwilling to allow evacuation of the material, citing Coronavirus concerns.
