1. Caffeine: Caffeine consumption has been linked to kidney stones. Also, as caffeine is a stimulant, it’s long-term use can increase the risk of renal failure if the kidneys are already damaged. Consuming even small amounts of caffeine on an empty stomach can cause kidney stones. It is best to consume teas/ coffee in moderation. Go for herbal teas instead; and if you must drink coffee, then decaf coffee is your best option. 2. GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms): Common foods such as corn, wheat, and soy have been genetically altered to feed the ever-increasing world population. They contain high levels of herbicides and pesticides which are toxic to the kidneys and liver. Research has shown that blood creatinine and uric acid concentrations increased significantly in rats fed the GM diet for 30, 60, or 90 days. The ‘foreign’ substances in GMOs overwhelm your kidneys and liver, detoxification organs that are crucial for preventing bone weakening and preserving youthful bones. 3. Animal protein: People with kidney problems should stay away from high protein diets. The same also goes for dairy products as milk and cheese contain high levels of protein. Protein can be highly acidifying, and that’s regardless of whether it comes from a cow, a sheep or a goat. As a result, the consumption of milk and other dairy products increases calcium secretion in the urine. This puts a tremendous amount of stress on your kidneys and “ages” your bones by depleting them of calcium. 4. Salt: Table salt is about 40% sodium and contains bleaching agents and dextrose. A high salt diet alters the sodium balance, causing the kidneys to have reduced function and remove less water resulting in higher blood pressure. This puts a massive strain on the kidneys and can lead to kidney disease. Moreover, a diet high in salt has been shown to increase the amount of protein in the urine which is a major risk factor for the decline of kidney function. To keep your kidneys healthy make sure you consume no more than 6g of salt every day. 5. Artificial sweeteners: Synthetic sugars such as aspartame and saccharine rapidly decrease kidney function. These are found in junk food, fizzy drinks, energy drinks and even in regular fruit juices. Reducing your sugar intake also lower your chances of developing diabetes, obesity, and kidney disease. If you cut back on the processed sugars, you’re also more likely to lose calories, chemicals, and sodium. Your kidneys (and your waistline) will thank you for it. Our fore fathers, including our parents didn't have kidney failures up and down because they didn't know about 90% of these foods listed above... We need to remain with local foods so as to remain healthy |
