Please I need your opinion on this. A brother needs some advice.

He got 2 admissions, One at a Federal Univeristy via Jamb-UTME to study Computer science for 4 years and another one via Direct Entry at a Federal College of Edu affiliated to UNN, to study Computer education for 3 years. He's currently 25 and is confused of which to go for. He's very worried about the age he'll graduate considering that he's the first son, and also the kind of degree he'll get if he chooses the 3 year option.

Your wise words are appreciated.

The differences between B.sc and B.sc(ed) is the education aspect. For B.Edu, Most of ur courses in sch will be from computer science dept u will only take two or three courses per semester in education dept. U will also go 4 ur teaching practice in a secondary sch in ur year 3 and 4. So at d end of the day u will b able to teach computer sci in a second sch level. Ur final year project will also b from educatn dept not computer sci.

After graduation u can decide to take a career in education (which is usually the case) or science. Havin connection will help u a lot. This is Nigeria. Also graduate with a good result. It also helps in the labour market

Computer science or education, if he fails to develop himself, an ordinary tech enthusiast will be better. It's about self development.
For the paper qualification now, please let him accept the computer science. If I'm right, computer education will train him to be a computer educationist while a computer scientist can be certified an educationist with PGDE. But then, what do I know?

If both were federal Universities, I would have said you should go for the Bsc Edu but since the other is a college of education please go for the federal University and study Bsc Computer Science.

Why I said Bsc Edu would be better if both are federal universities because as today's job market, all that matters is if you graduated with a 2:1 or not in any university course of study, but the Bsc Edu would give you an edge in becoming a lecturer at tertiary institutions and education related industry.

Go and check all the banks and big companies that recruited this year, all you see as requirement is a 2:1 university degree, once you pass the aptitude test and interview you are in, be you a Bsc or Bsc Edu or not, so you see that the Bsc Edu has an edge here, but only if its from a federal university though.

It depends on his aspirations after graduation. If he wants to apply for industry jobs, he stands a better chance with computer science.
If he has a flair for programming, networking at al and wants to get out fast, get some certification and probably open a business he may opt for the B.Edu

Let him study computer science for 4years, he won't regret it.

When he will start working with his Bsc, he will understand the difference.

I was once in ur shoe years ago... As a computer scientist u can work any where but computer education can only work in an educational line... During the process in school u will discover that they are some courses computer science student will offer while computer education won't offer... Examples CSC 301, 303, 309, 421, 419 n many more which are majorly programming courses....

But now my brother I manage 2 bet9ja shops after having my BSc in computer science... Ur degree only has limited effect in ur course if life...

Simply go for computer science

How can he be asking foolish question, he should go for full fledge university if he has d opportunity, affiliate is not university and he will feel it after he has graduated when discrimination sets in. 1 year difference that he is looking at may cost him several years job hunting. May God give u wisdom.
