Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday listed the 17 achievements of his boss.

He also noted that the coming year (2018) will be Nigeria’s “Year of Infrastructure” as the government has lined up a number of important infrastructure projects which cut across the various sectors.

Here are the 2017 major achievements of Buhari in 2017 as listed by Adesina

1. Nigeria exited its worst recession in decades. After five quarters of negative growth, the economy bounced back into positive territory. Agriculture was one of the stars of 2017, posting consistent growth levels even throughout the recession. Also, Inflation fell for ten consecutive months during 2017 (February to November).

2. The Naira stabilised against the dollar, after the Central Bank introduced a new forex window for Investors and Exporters. The stability has attracted billions of dollars in portfolio investments since April 2017.

3. On the back of a stable Naira and increased investment inflows, Nigeria’s stock market emerged one of the best-performing in the world, delivering returns in excess of 40 percent.

4. Nigeria saw bumper food harvests, especially in rice, whose local production continues to rise significantly (States like Ebonyi, Kebbi, Kano leading the pack, with Ogun joining at the end of 2017). The price of a 50kg bag of rice – a staple in the country – has fallen by about 30 percent since the beginning of 2017, as local production has gone up.

5. The Federal Government launched a 701 billion Naira Intervention Fund (‘Payment Assurance Programme’) aimed at supporting power generation companies to meet their payment obligations to gas and equipment suppliers, banks and other partners. The impact is being felt, the amount of power being distributed is now currently steady at around 4,000MW – higher than previously recorded.

6. The Federal Government began paying pensions to police officers who were granted Presidential pardon in 2000 after serving in the former Biafran Police during the Nigerian Civil War. These officers, and their next of kin, have waited for their pensions for 17 years since the Presidential pardon.

7. Nigeria rose 24 places on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings, and earned a place on the List of Top 10 Reformers in the world.

8. Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves grew by $12 billion, reaching the highest level since 2014. Nigeria also added, this year, an additional $250m to its Sovereign Wealth Fund. Also, Nigeria’s trade balance crossed over into surplus territory, from a deficit in 2016.

9. Nigeria successfully issued two Eurobonds (US$4.5bn), a Sukuk Bond (100 billion Naira), a Diaspora Bond (US$300m), and the first Sovereign Climate Bond in Africa, raising billions of dollars for infrastructure spending.

10. The Federal Government launched a Tax Amnesty scheme expected to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenues when it closes in March 2018.

11. The Federal Government successfully commenced implementation of a Whistleblowing Programme that has so far seen recoveries of tens of millions of dollars.

12. The Social Investment Programme – Nigeria’s most ambitious social welfare programme ever – rolled out across dozens of states. (Currently, 5.2 million primary school children in 28,249 schools in 19 states are being fed daily; 200,000 unemployed graduated enlisted into the Npower Job Scheme, and a quarter of a million loans already distributed to artisans, traders, and farmers).

13. The number of Nigerians facing food insecurity in the northeast dropped by half, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

14. The Nigeria Customs Service recorded its highest-ever revenue collection, crossing the One Trillion Naira (N1,000,000,000) mark. [The target for 2017 was 770 billion Naira (N770,573,730,490); 2016 Collection was just under 900 billion (N898,673,857,431.07)]

15. The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), under the new management appointed by President Buhari in 2016, remitted 7.8 billion Naira to the coffers of the Federal Government. The total amount remitted by JAMB between 2010 and 2016 was 51 million Naira.

16. 2017 was also the Year of Nigeria’s Agriculture Revolution, embodied by the successes of the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI) and the Anchor Borrowers Programme. More than a dozen moribund fertilizer blending plants were revived under the PFI this year.

17. Finally, 2017 will be the Year that laid the foundation for a 2018 that will be Nigeria’s Year of Infrastructure. A number of important infrastructure projects, in power, rail and road, are scheduled to come on-stream or inch close to completion next year.

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from experience.

This govt. has proven that it does not have the capacity to learn from experience, how can an abysmal administration as this talk about achievement.

Propaganda can win you an election but you can't govern on propaganda and lies. All hail Lai Mohammed.

Exit a recession created by who?

Stabilize a currency that was made "ruined" by who?

The federal government forgot to include:

18. The federal government appointed 3 dead men as board members.

Let me respond to all the 17 points listed.

1) This government brought us into the only recession we have ever experienced since 1985.
We the people of Nigeria brought ourselves out of the recession Buhari put us into with our usual dexterity and capacity to survive extreme conditions.

2) The Central Bank Governor knew what to do all along but Buhari was preventing him from doing the right thing by devaluation. As soon as Buhari got sick and went to London, the Governor presented his intervention program and passed it on to Osibanjo for approval. And that’s exactly what saved Nigeria. Buhari’s archaism is responsible for all the problems witnessed in the last 2 years.

3) Best stock market performance indeed. We were the worst performing last year.
Let me put it in perspective. Imagine in a class of 30 students, you carried 29th position last year with 10 over 100 as your score on the test. This year you now take 26th position with a score of 30 over hundred. Well, that’s an improvement when you are an olodo. But if you have been top ten in the class with scores above 70 over 100 for the last 10 years, you would definitely be hiding your face in shame.
Nigeria’s stock market cap grew this year but it was $80 billion in 2013 and has crashed down to $36 billion as at November 2017. There is nothing to celebrate. The stock market is 3 Times smaller than just 4 years ago.

4) When the price of Rice gets back to the N8500 it was in 2014, I will start to take them seriously. A rice revolution that jacked up the price by 100%. Hmmm. Something isn’t adding up.
Two questions: if we have increased local production, shouldn’t the price drop radically abi dollar affect the sand used for planting? Secondly, all I saw in the market this Christmas is imported rice. Where is all the local rice. I usually see them on newspapers but never in the market.

5) The Government is still talking about 4000 mw after lying to us that they achieved 6000 mw the other day. We haven’t moved an inch. There’s barely any improvement in supply. No new strategies to improve supply. 700 billion would go down the drain. Whereas Dangote alone is going to put up 12000Mw in Lagos within the next 2 years.

6) Paying pensioners is listed as an achievement!! That's a clear sign that there is nothing to list!!

7) The ease of doing business part is the only point that might backing. And clearly this all happened in the time Buhari was sick. Osibanjo took this seriously and some results started showing. As soon as Buhari came back, everything stopped. Again, this just goes to show that Buahri is the problem of Nigeria.

The rest of the things on the list are not worth the time. As only a shameless government would list such things in 2017 as achievements. That JAMB remitted more money is listed. Not how the money JAMB remitted has been used to improve the education system. That you have taken new loans, not what you used the loans to accomplish. That you are launching a tax amnesty scheme. Can you imagine? Its just pathetic.

If you notice, there is no talk of infrastructure development despite budgeting over N2.2 trillion for capital projects in 2017. That is a whooping $7 billion. That amount of money would build 1000km of brand new 6 lane expressway @ $7million per kilometer which is very expensive.
Or better still, the Abuja-Kaduna railway is 200km and cost about $874 million. With the capital budget for 2017, we would have built an additional 900km of the Abuja Kaduna type rail across the country.

But nothing. Absolutely nothing is anywhere on ground so they come up with a terrible list of achievements for the unintelligent zombies to dance to.

Failures of Buhari:

1.Power supply: Nigerians have been groaning over epileptic power supply which has crippled many businesses. While campaigning for the presidential election last year, the APC on which ticket Buhari contested, promised to expand electricity generation and distribution to 40,000 MW. Igerians are still waiting for this to become a reality.

2.Economic crisis/Naira: The value of the naira has continued to dwindle. Today, it’s going up and the next day it’s dropping. As at Monday, April 18, it was trading between N317 and N320 for a dollar.

3.Budget: This is not the first time Nigeria is passing a budget but this particular administration's budget has always been the most controversial and always takes too long to get the passed into law. Often, it is riddled with padding and irrelevant items.

4.Fuel scarcity: There seems to be no end in sight to the lingering fuel scarcity. When Nigerians think the scarcity is over, it rears its ugly head once again. You can’t just drive freely into any petrol station and buy fuel, you would have to queue for at least 30 minutes. Some motorists buy fuel for between N150 and N300 per litre.

5.Security challenges: While Buhari focuses on curbing Boko Haram insurgency, he continues to keep mute on the wanton killings by Fulani herdsmen terrorising farming communities across Nigeria. Fulani herdsmen are causing havoc and nothing is being done and boko haram is also waxing strong.

6.Unemployment: Buhari promised the creation of 1 million new jobs annually during 2015 election campaigns. While Nigerians wait for Buhari to fulfill this promise, some who have jobs are being fired on a daily basis as some companies laying off staff due to the harsh economy.

7. Nepotism. Lopsided appointments that favour the north.

8. Undemocratic. Disobeying rule of law. Illegally using the military and security agencies to muscle opposing voices.

9. Wastefulness: Spent millions of naira to treat himself abroad, when the same resource can be spent to improve the quality of health care and facility in any Abuja hospital. Budgets more money for Aso rock maintenance than any other govt. Unnessessary travels.
