when I was growing up it used to b mainly Catholic, deeper life and some other few.

But now they've all broken out of the above churches to start their own like an apprentice getting freedom from his master.

No Christian from different churches believe in one doctrine. The act as if they server different God.

Some can even go a year without going to church if for instance they were posted or relocated temporarily to a place where their church is not found.

For real? Do they attend the same mosques or what.

Contrary to the thoughts and ideas that Christianity is divided by denominations, the denominations are different part of a single body (The Church).
Each denomination has what it supply to the body of Christ. Each has their mandate (assignment). What God want to acheive with each denomination is different. By bringing all together, we will then have a well equipped and balanced Church.

Some Churches are:
1) Faith based
2) Leadership Oriented
3) Prophetic
4) Deliverance
5) Word based

Each denomination doing their thing is a blessing to the entire body, as each one does deep and concentrated study on his mandate.
No true Church is Isolated as messages and teachings from one denomination flows to the other. Just like the human body with many parts, each part has it's function and each joint what it supplies, but all work together for good to the advantage of the other. Having two right legs in a body is very odd.
It is also a way God moves on with His work when some resist Change and new move of God.

In CRK Waec, We have themes from Old testament, Four gospels/Acts of apostles and Selected epistles, even Jehovah Witnesses and Catholic dont have issue with that. But do u know in IRS we have Quran ( all muslims believe in it). Do u know there are Hadith, Tariqh and Fiqh that some muslims such as Shites and Kalakatu dont believe. Even this Christmas controversy, more than 99.2% Christians believe in Christmas, even the remaining 0.8 % believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and salvation is through Jesus Christ. All Christians believe Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. Shites doesnt believe Muhammad is d mediator.

Christianity has more sects because as a religion it has freed itself from the firm grip of the theocrats. Theocracy no longer has power over the people unlike in Islam. This alone has made christianity less conservative and christians more open minded and liberal than muslims.

As a white man's religion his enlightenment and constant evolution has also affected the religion so to the extent that there is no universally accepted christian doctrine. People just self project themselves as God and give their personal opinions and interpretation as the ultimate. Sick there is no governing body to keep them.in check they are free to create what ever sect they want to create and interpretthe bible they way they want to interprete it.

Christians just pick and chose what ever part of the bible they want to accept based on personal opinions and run away with it unlike in Islam where interpretation is rigid and the opinion of the early scholars have to be strictly adhered to.

Don't pretend not to know that Catholics and protestants fought bitter wars because of doctrinal issues. Catholics attacked and killed protestants on the grounds that they were heretics. Read about the Catholic vs protestants 30 years war that lead to the death of over 8 million people across Europe. The christians have had their own share of bloody sectarian conflicts.
