I now see why Africans can never be respected worldwide. There is nothing and I mean absolutely nothing we do by ourselves. Despite the amount of foreign Education in this country, our engineers and technologist are very very unbearably dormant. Nothing to show for, no research or innovation. I weep for the Africa.

If you think this project will ever come to life, then you are mentally challenged. No SS or SE port will ever come to life without war...the plan is to only keep SW ports opened to make SE and SS dependent on One Nigeria while they continue to steal their oil. Keeping only SW ports opened makes Yorubaa to support One Nigeria because they are benefiting. Why do you think Yorubaas support One Nigeria despite the deaths and sufferings in the land? Even if Fulanis slaughter 5 million in Benue, Afonjas don't give a damn. This is what we call Strategic Compensatory Psychology.

Edo people ask yourselves...why have They not open the ports in SS(Port Harcourt, Calabar, Onne and Warri) to function to the capacity of Lagos ports, yet they are telling you that another one will be built in the same SS? Edo people use your sense nah.

Watch as Afonjas will attack me...because they know deep in their heart that this port will never come to fruition and are angry I'm exposing them.

Excuses are for failures and it appears to be hereditary from the jobless director to his deluded ipob followers.

Well, I won’t respond to you the way you wrote. I would just ignore and be civil.

The problem with this kind of victim mentality is that it accords so much power to your perceived enemies which automatically suppresses your own power.

The rule of the game is to ensure that you don’t have to depend on the FG for anything concrete. The problem with every other port in Nigeria is that they are all import dependent. Everybody views port operations from the perspective of how they can access goods from overseas.
If you tweak that perspective and start thinking how you can ship goods first to other African countries and then subsequently to the rest of the world, then you’ll be unto something.
Lagos ports that everybody complains about doesn’t even export one tenth of what Onne and Delta ports export. These 2 ports control 85% of Nigeria’s exports even though it’s just oil.

The great thing about the Gelegele port plan is that it is tied to the massive industrial park which is already being built. And the industrial park is tied to AZura power plant which has been fully built. And the AZura plant is tied to the presence of a gas pipeline hub in Oben that connects much of the gas in the Niger Delta to the rest of the country.

So yes, I think the hegemony up North would try to prevent this from happening, but the Governor is smart and has Dangote heavily invested and we all know that anything Dangote touches moves with speed. So yes, this will see the light of day.

God bless your sensible senses.

While people are looking for ways to help the country in whatever capacity they can, that one is there spewing rubbish and spreading hate...like we all dont know how Lagos' Port became what it is today....the Europeans who made Lagos their trade capital in the colonial era didnt have a tribal sentiments at heart, they only found a place that suits their cause.

I doubt if the guy is even an Edo person because Edo pple dont play victims or cry wolf.

OP, the Gelegele seaport has been in the pipeline for a long time. Hope the project sees the light of day. Is there a motorable road to Gelegele from Benin. Also does the govt have any intention of rehabilitating the Siluko River Port . It was really a very useful port when it was functional and immensely boosted the localeconomy of the Iguobazuwa-Siluko axis. It also provided alternative means of transportation of goods from Lagos to Benin back then.
You mean there's a water route from Benin to Lagos? I didn't know that.

This guy is a doer.

While other states would typically be begging the federal government to come and build for them, Obaseki is pushing ahead and ahead.

Edo State would be the first state to successfully build a world class Port.

The beauty is that the Gelegele Port is not built with imports in mind but with exportation of manufactured Agro/ Allied Produce.
The port is tied to the N200billion Benin Industrial Park which is already being built.
The park is tied to the 1000MW AZura power project. The first phase of 450MW has been test run and would be ready for commissioning in a few months.
Yea. I didn't give Obaseki a chance during the election but he's surprising me so far.

Gelegele seaport. It is tied to the Benin Industrial Park project which would see lots of Agro Allied companies set up shop to process raw materials and move the value added goods through the port to the rest of the world.

But it has not started, talk more of completion, and you sounded like the Port is already ruinning

Sir, do you have a precedent for what you claim? I mean, was there a state governor in the SS and SE that commenced the building of a port but was frustrated by Yorubas and Fulanis?

WHAT YOU SAID IS TRUE. THE SW HAS BEING A BOTTLE -NECK TO OTHER SEAPORT DEVELOPMENT. IT TAKES 3 -4 MONTHS TO CLEAR CONTAINER @ ONNE SEAPORT WHILE FEW DAYS AT LAGOS PORT.

THAT MONOPOLY HAS COME TO AN END. CALABAR PORT HAS STARTED TO RECEIVED FLAT BOTTOM SHIPS, SERVING TINAPA AND TRADE ZONE. THE GOVERNOR OF CROSS RIVER STATE IS ALSO EMBARKING ON SEAPORT OF THEIR OWN TEMPORARY STOP BY POLITICAL SPONSORED ENVIRONMENTALIST. THE TIDES ARE TURNING AND I WISH OUR GOVERNOR GODS GUIDANCE.

Everyone developing seaport

Akwa Ibom is doing Ibom seaport

Calabar is on Tinapa seaport

Should Lagos be worried?
Just before you believe in fake uniformed analysis, let me explain few things to you

Lagos port belongs to federal government and the revenue generated from the port goes to the federal government.

in the south/south

Nigerian government have seaports in delta state mainly used for petroleum products export

in rivers Nigerian government have ports in onne and porthalcult, also mainly used for petroleum products export because of its design

in calabar, the port mainly serves the navy

Lagos government hardly profits directly from the seaports

Tinapa and ibom seaports just like the gelegele seaport does not belong to the federal government.

Most of those seaport are small in comparisons to the Lagos seaports and are designed to aid the export of goods from the state or region it is located.

It is really for the benefit of the economy of the region and Nigeria as a whole smiley

Have you asked yourself who built Onne port? Where does the bulk of the proceeds go? How many times have the port been shutdown in the past 6 years. Has Lagos been shut down at anytime in the past 6years.

We are watching, vizaviz the budget for the project.

Yes Obaseki is a different breed of politician, he is what I call techno-politician. He his not your regular politician, that is why he has been able to achieve all these in a little over a year in office. Regular politicians share state resources amongst themselves first and whatever little that left is sprinkled on substandard projects that are often not completed. With Obaseki, there has been no such sharing hence everyone including the politicians are looking for ways to be productive, which adds much value to the state. At the rate Obaseki is delivery, one will be forgiven to think the state budget is up to halve a trillion naira.

You are funny, that was the port the European used in most of their trade with the Benin Empire starting around 1485AD. There is a BBC documentary on YouTube about this port and the Benin European relationship done in the 1970s. This was the route that was also used to established the Lagos monarchy about 300 years ago. It is estimated to be less than an hour journey by boat from the port to Lagos.
