The federal government has defined the colony, being presented to be a panacea to herders, farmers clashes, as “areas carved out for different species of animal whether by nature or by human design that is found in a large community sharing the same terrain”.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh made this clarification while receiving the governors of Kogi and Plateau states who were in his office to discuss how the cattle colony policy can be implemented in their domains.

He said, “We have big colonies in certain areas. If you go to the West Indies, crocodiles and alligators are bred in colonies where they harvest them for shoes and belts and ladies’ handbags. So, a colony is a much bigger thing than a ranch. They are basically about the same kind of thing.

“We are talking of colonies because 20, 30, or 40 ranchers can share the same colony. A ranch is usually owned by an individual or a company with sometimes very few. Some have more than 200 or 300 cows. In a cattle colony, you could find thirty thousand cows owned by different owners.

“The reason we are designing the colony is that we want to prepare on a large scale, on the economy of scale, a place where many owners of cattle can co-exist, be fed well because we can make their feeds. They can get good water to drink. Cows drink a lot of water. We can give them green fodder.

Useless state Governors attended the meeting

These are the kinds of policies of live and let live that are needed. Much as we condemn all these violence, the governor of Benue State was very immature in handling the whole issue. Banning an unforgiving set of people unilaterally, without exhaustive consultation outside the state or thought about possible consequences was the immediate cause of the violence. Matured minds like David Mark would never be that careless.

I thought states have the right to establish a law and enforce it. The land belong to the Benue people and they have a right to determine what it should be used for

Buhari should come out straight. The idear is to have a fulani colony in all the states of Nigeria.
Any state that agrees to this is actually giving out their land for free to fulanis.

This will not end there. They will start having emirs in those colonies. The whole idea is a script already written. They started this killings in orther to justify this idear as a lasting solution.

I pity any state who will submit their t land to Fulani expantionists who are not even Nigerians.

Last time we heard of colony in Africa, it took tears and blood before the real owners could enjoy peace and equality in their land.

They will demand for representation in government and gets a commissioner

Fulanis are not sharing the same domain with the Benue people, this idea of the colony can work where fulani people are stakeholders in a domain, but in the case of Benue state, they are strangers.

If these colonies are allowed, they would soon become towns with their own kings etc. No sane governor should agree to sell his people.

Indeed Nigeria is on the brink of breaking. The analysis here points to a grand plan and strategic move towards an ultimate infiltration of these Fulani men into our communities which must be resisted. What a shame

These colonies should be restricted to Fulani's state alone. Don't even think of bringing it down South, because it will not work. Here, in the South, our world view is very different from yours, you resort to killing over misunderstanding. You want to use terrorism and intimidation to mark out lands for yourself. If only people knew the word "colonize " was taken from the word "colony" they would reject this cunning idea by this deceptive govt to use fedral migt to colonize the middle belt states for Fulani herdmens..

They should simply go to sambisa and establish that since they are going to make feeds for the cow and the cow owners would come and buy from them ..no point trying to collect people land by wayo....and handing it down to the marauders.....This is simply another war of conquest in disguise..No sane people should ever allow this in their domain and all those governors running to go and take lecture...their people should know what to do in the next coming elecrion simple....Peace..!!!.

Cattle Colony or any semantics close to it is absolute jargon. It is a subtly term coined to deceive communities to concede their lands to Fulani Herdsmen.
You mean states should carve out lands and give out to Ak47 carrying Fulani Herdmens as Colonies, and in the following 5 yrs the Fulani herdsmen tell you it was their land from the start. And the next thing you will know is them Colonizing you.
I simply dont understand how Herdsmen have suddenly become so powerful that they can tell Governors and communities what laws they should have in their states!!!
And the one million dollar question am asking is: Why should Herdmens be allowed to carry firearms when they are not licensed to? Does it mean that Nigerian law isn't binding on Fulani Herdsmen because a Fulani man is the President?
May God deliver Nigeria from Buhari and his people.
