The Two Key Tools Of Every Teacher by Futureschool(m): 8:33pm On Jan 21, 2018
No matter what you are teaching; be it subject based, course based or skill based; every teacher at the end of the day after all is said and done, has two key tools to work with; Fear or Passion, and each must choose his own.
1. FEAR
Most Teachers currently evoke fear in their students; the student becomes bugged down with the fear of failure, the fear of losing out, the fear of being ridiculed, the fear of being made fun of; laughed at or jeered at. Any teacher can evoke this; most teachers again currently evoke this. It is a sad reality, but one that is quite evident in the various approaches teachers are currently employing.
2. PASSION
Passion overcomes fear; any day, any moment, every time. Every teacher can inspire passion, every teacher MUST inspire passion. When passion drives a teacher, the teacher effortlessly assumes the position of a coach.
What does a coach do?
A coach helps his/her student to maximize his/her potential and also awaken latent potentials. The task of a coach is to help the students become the best they can be. That is why in coaching, the success of the student is the success of the coach; same goes for failure.
Coaching is a useful way of developing people’s skills and abilities and boosting performance. Coaching also helps the student deal with observable challenges before they become major problems.
Rules of Coaching
Every teacher needs to keep these rules at the back of their mind if they are to become an effective coach;
1. Coaching is founded on confidentiality and trust
2. The solution to every coachee’s issues lies within the coachee.
3. A coach develops rather than imposes; a coach spurs reflection rather than direct.
4. Effective coaching facilitates changes; that is it enables people rather than training them. It allows for personal transition on an individual basis, until the students individually decide and discover their required progression themselves.
5. Empathy is central to the coaching process.
Teachers should strive to inspire students and not make them afraid. Every teacher needs to know that if a student fails, it’s the system that fails not just the student. Hence every teacher MUST strive to become a coach.
Please share with every teacher you know.
